This is where our community discusses almost anything! While we're mainly a Cambodia expat discussion forum and talk about expat life here, we debate about almost everything. Even if you're a tourist passing through Southeast Asia and want to connect with expatriates living and working in Cambodia, this is the first section of our site that you should check out. Our members start their own discussions or post links to other blogs and/or news articles they find interesting and want to chat about. So join in the fun and start new topics, or feel free to comment on anything our community members have already started! We also have some Khmer members here as well, but English is the main language used on CEO. You have piles OP. Take a stool softener and put suppositories up your bum.
Try and eat more fiber.
Straining with constipation can give you a stroke or heart attack.

I'm foreigner / confused. Sorry I joined up to try to find out about the thai visa and then got stuck into it.

Now that you've told us who you are, it's all so much clearer.
Foreigner wrote: Sun Jun 14, 2020 5:23 am I phoned the doctor up last week. He said "what's the problem". I said, "I've had 17 colds in the last 8 months".

He says, "You can't have 17 colds in 8 months. What do you mean by colds ?"

I say, "How do you mean, what do I mean ?". "Colds"

"What type of colds ?", he says.

So I try to think of the typical symptoms. A bit of cattargh, sometimes feel a bit feverish but it passes. And lately I've started to get this feeling at the bottom of my lungs, kind of like a stitch. And I get a cold on my chest.

We discuss what I mean by a cold on my chest, I say to the guy, "have you ever had a cold ?". He says it's not about him it's about me.

So I say I don't know, I guess my chest feels kind of heavy. Like I've got a cold.

"Do you smoke ?", he asks. I tell him I do smoke.

He says, "OK, listen come in for some blood tests. We'll test your kidneys, your liver, check everything's looking normal", "and get a chest x-ray done", "call reception and arrange to pick up a form to take along". "I'll give you a call in a week or so when we've got the results."

So today I go along for the chest x-ray. I'm thinking this is a good day to do it cos my lungs are feeling like shit. The lady's all chirpy and friendly as she does the xray. She says I'm too tall to fit on the frame, so she takes some extra shots so there's pictures from the top to the bottom.

She says "that's it, we're all done.". Tells me the xrays will go to the hospital and my doctor will have them back in 5 days.

I can't stop thinking though that when I walked out she looked like she had tears in her eyes.

Probably nothing.
I just find this so odd. It’s not just you, but a mentality like that is completely alien to me. To respond to someone telling you they are ill and panicking about their health, by trying to prove that they are making it up, or bait them for not having any friends or family they felt they could turn to in the middle of the night.

I just find it utterly bizarre that someone should think in that way. Would you do the same if someone told you they were ill somewhere else ? just say “well actually you c***, you were f***ing ****ing yourself a few weeks ago about something else and I thought you were a **** then too” sort of thing.

I realise this is a Cambodia forum and not an international shoulder to cry on helpline, but why can’t you just recognise that someone’s in distress and say something supportive or helpful, or wish them luck ? Is it really that hard to do, rather than embarking on a mission to prove that the person is making the whole thing up, and act the smart ass while your mate makes unpleasant comments about no one caring if they die anyway etc ? What kind of people think like this ?

No doubt you’ll know better than me, and trying to justify my being unwell to you will be futile, but I‘ll give it a go below in case it appeases your or anyone else’s negative reaction to my middle of the night cry for help from a place that felt completely desperate to me.

I had kept getting what seemed like a chest cold almost constantly for several months when I decided I needed to get it looked into. I went to the doctor who gave me blood tests and a chest xray. The night of the chest xray I got a bit panicy because the doctor put on the xray form “smoking”, and when I left I thought the nurse looked upset/worried. I obviously got it wrong thankfully. The chest xray came back clear and the blood tests normal.

A few weeks later with me still getting these symptoms I managed to speak with my regular doctor who said he thinks the problem is my stomach, and prescribed me tablets for silent reflux. This was the end of July. Coincidently before I picked the tablets up I did start to notice acid reflux and felt very billeous. The tablets calmed it down and I took them daily for about 3 weeks.

I continued to get intermittent cold like symptoms up until around the middle of August. About a month ago I felt very sick and had stomach ache an I got some more of the reflux tablets from a pharmacist on the island of Astypalea in Greece, which sorted it out quickly. I have taken the tablets occasionally since then.

On Wednesday I woke up with a severe stomach ache. Late morning I vomited some white stuff. I spent the rest of the day in bed feeling week and exhausted. On Thursday and Friday I felt significantly better, and although I still had a slight stomach ache had quite a vigorous swim on Friday and was pleased with how fit I felt. Twice though when I went for a dump, I noticed that the toilet bowl was full of blood. What seemed like a lot of blood. The 2nd time it happened was when I was going to bed around midnight I would guess. I was concerned about it and went online to do a medical check through some website which asked a lot of detailed questions, and at the end said,

“Recommendation. Go to the nearest emergency department. Your symptoms are worrisome and you may require urgent care. If you can’t get to an emergency department, please call an ambulance.”

I went to the hospital which took blood tests and an xray, which they turned round inside an hour, and the doctor told me that I had to see an oncologist today, and that I need an oncology test (I don’t know the technical details and he was Greek) and that I have to get drugs to take 24 hours before. He refused to rule out that it was related to cancer. The xray was normal but there were 2 numbers on the blood test results that were substantially outside perameters.

I had a severe stomach ache this morning and was only able to sleep for around 50 minutes. I phoned the gastro specialist who normally works Monday to Friday but agreed to see me today. He was in the neighbouring island but said he would see me this afternoon. I explained my symptoms, he told me I need a medical examination I can’t remember the name of, and told me not to have anything to eat or drink before I see him apart from water. I have been in bed all day with a severe stomach ache and feeling unwell. I have an appointment to see the specialist in an hour.

I appreciate the comments some people put on here, and have also had a few supportive comments from friends etc and my mum, and I am in a completely different frame of mind with their reassurance and since I was able to read about the blood test issues this morning, which appear to me to indicate anemia and bone marrow deficiency which may be related to a bowel disease.

No doubt some part of this story won’t stack up to someone and I’ll have to justify my claim for being ill again, but the above strikes me as a fair attempt to answer the cross examination at a reasonable level of detail.

If we phrase this a bit more diplomatically - why would you think that expats living in Cambodia would have a better plan for medical emergencies than people, such as yourself, that live in first world countries ?
If you have a serious illness such as cancer etc in Cambodia, then either you prepare yourself for the worst or you fly home.

So, the OP openly admits that he was the poster known as Foreigner. He also stated that he was also Confused.

If anyone has nothing to do for the next 30 minutes, here is a little light reading from the OP posting as Confused. (Sorry, it's in a restricted access area of the forum, After Dark section)

THE SAD TALE OF THE MAN WHO COULDN’T MAKE A FRIEND IN CAMBODIA FOR LOVE NOR MONEY

Teaser:
I heard about this guy in Cambodia, and wanted to see what you guys thought about his story, if you have the time and the interest to read it (sorry I know it’s long).

Assuming that what he thinks is true, in particular it would be of interest to know if anyone knows who is behind this, why they do it, how they do it, and most importantly – because there are girls in Cambodia who he still cares for and would like to see again – whether they will ever stop.
The guy has endured heartbreak and tears that are more difficult to measure than the money he has spent.

JANUARY 2018
He first went to Cambodia a little over 2 years ago now, primarily as a tourist/sightseer. He visited a few different places, and then got stuck in Siem Reap for a couple of weeks, where he enjoyed the nightlife. The details are a little sketchy here, but it seems that there were a couple of freelancers who he went home with from the nightclub there.

FEBRUARY-MARCH 2018
He returned only a few weeks later, primarily to try to find a girl who he slept with on his last night in Siem Reap and who had followed him to Phnom Penh (where he was flying from) where he left her at the bus station, only to worry about her later when he wasn’t able to contact her to say sorry.
He went back to the hostel in Siem Reap where the girl had worked, and found out that she was fine, but she’d moved to Phnom Penh a couple of weeks earlier, and he was given her new phone number.

This is going to be a long story at this rate.

There was a girl he met on Valentines Day and . . .
