Giant RV/caravan/Winnebago spotted near TK today....
I saw one of those giant recreational vehicles/caravans/Winnebagos in front of one of the mansions in Toul Kork today. I have never seen one that huge before, and it was larger than a big bus. How nice it would be to have one of those for trips down to the beach (or up to Angkor Wat)! I am wondering how much it would cost to have it shipped here from the US (much larger than a large shipping container by the way)? And how much the import tax/customs duty would be?? I have photos but am not sure how to post them....

It looked like a Winnebago Horizon 42 Q.

I seen one last year parked on riverside in Kratie , traveling like that around Asia is not my idea of fun would be hectic driving anywhere and finding parking plus guest houses are so cheap.
I'm standing up, so I must be straight.

I've done numerous trips thru the states, Canada, Mexico, north Africa and Europe with different Volkswagen Westfalia Camper's, mostly back in the 60's & 70's
they were always great trips as you have the freedom to sleep where you choose. Even in the center of cities
No way, would i choose to travel like this is asia thou

Re: Giant RV/caravan/Winnebago spotted near TK today....
Doing it the proper and official way, Customs duty 35%, special tax 70% and VAT 10% These are charged cumulatively so the effective total rate is 152.45%. If it's a personal import there is 20% added to the value before the calculation is done. So let's say you bought it for $30,000, spent $6000 shipping it, then you're looking at a duty/tax bill of around $66,000
I am led to believe that not everybody follows the proper and official way in Cambodia though^^

Re: Giant RV/caravan/Winnebago spotted near TK today....
Cambodia isn’t really designed for RV travel.
The roads are poor for starters. Those big vehicles or trailers need smooth roads to drive on. Not pot holed riddled, unstable packed dirt with wondering dogs, cows, or carrots to hit.
No travel centers everywhere to attend to the needs of the RV.
No RV parks with hookups for electricity, water, sewage.
Plus in the US, every WalMart parking lot welcomes RVs to park there for the night.
Maybe in the future RVs will be popular in the Kingdom of Wonder.
Right now, a luxury RV is just another status symbol.

and, in addition, good luck when it goes wrong; nobody will know anything about them, getting problems properly diagnosed first time is a crap shoot and then you have to obtain spares and then find someone to fit whatever needs replacing. What a nightmare...newkidontheblock wrote: ↑Thu Aug 27, 2020 9:39 am Cambodia isn’t really designed for RV travel.
