Missing South African's Families Continue The Search
South Africans Missing Since 2019 Still Not Found
Both Mushfiq Daniels & John Bothma have been missing since 2019, they were last seen in HCMC. The two cases are unrelated and although both are South African and went missing within two months of each other, they were not acquainted. There have been several South African media reports stating that the two young men were believed to be victims of an organ harvesting syndicate in Vietnam, but there is zero evidence to back this claim.
Mushfiq Daniels: 30 years old
In September 2020 a radio station in HCMC received a phone call stating that Daniels had entered Cambodia illegally and was in hiding. His family have stated that this is very out of character for Daniels and that he may be suffering from a mental breakdown. Mushfiq has no history with substance abuse. The telephone provided by the anonymous caller was, +84988426642, but has proved to be out of service. Lead Investigations and Daniel's family are still in the process of attaining the relevant documentation to produce to the Cambodian General Department of Immigration from the South African embassy located in Bangkok. An extensive search for Daniels was carried out in 2019: His mother and uncle were in the city for 4 months. Together with Capi Consulting, a Ho Chi Minh based private Investigation firm, hospitals, slums, morgues and mosques were checked. There were multiple reports of Daniels visiting local mosques, where congregants claimed his behaviour was very odd. The photo above of Mushfiq with sunglasses on was taken the day before his disappearance.
John Bothma: 24 years old
Reports vary on the exact timeframe and events leading up to his disappearance. Days prior to his disappearance, Bothma had made plans to move to Phnom Penh, Cambodia, to find work as an English teacher. Mixed reports have contributed to locating him more difficult. Bothma has no history with substance abuse. He has no known link to Cambodia. John left his passport behind at his guesthouse and the South African Embassy in Bangkok has not reported that he has applied for a new one. Bothma's mother was able to travel to Vietnam and join in the search for her son, although because of financial limitations, her visit was only for seven days. On around the 18th/19th of May, 2019, Bothma had allegedly left his guesthouse in order to draw money from a nearby ATM in order to pay his bill. His friends claim that he simply never returned, leaving all of his belongings. There has been absolutely no suspected sightings of him since then.
