Mad Arsonist Strikes in Phnom Penh

Cambodia news in English! Here you'll find all the breaking news from Cambodia translated into English for our international readership and expat community to read and comment on. The majority of our news stories are gathered from the local Khmer newspapers, but we also bring you newsworthy media from Cambodia before you read them anywhere else. Because of the huge population of the capital city, most articles are from Phnom Penh, but Siem Reap, Sihanoukville, and Kampot often make the headlines as well. We report on all arrests and deaths of foreigners in Cambodia, and the details often come from the Cambodian police or local Khmer journalists. As an ASEAN news outlet, we also publish regional news and events from our neighboring countries. We also share local Khmer news stories that you won't find in English anywhere else. If you're looking for a certain article, you may use our site's search feature to find it quickly.

Mad Arsonist Strikes in Phnom Penh

Post by CEOCambodiaNews »

Cambodia News (Phnom Penh): In the afternoon of June 30, 2021, on the corner of Street 105 and 508, Boun village, Khan Chamkar Morn, a man known as Mao set fire to the house of another man, with whom he had previously had an argument over one month ago, and then blocked the villagers from putting out the fire with a long sword.

After the fire started burning out of control, the arsonist escaped the scene into the bush. The man was suspected to be high on drugs. Unfortunately, the fire burnt down six houses, even after the attempts by the villagers to put it out, and the firefighter trucks could not access the fire due to narrow streets.

Like surviving in a hot and smelly dictature isn't tough enough, having to count on the extra random fucker high on drugs weeks after an argument with someone else to ruin your belongings and possibly your life must seriously feels a bit much, while then some people get away from hit & runs riding a Rolls...

That's serious amounts of frustrations for the victims, i wouldn't know how to manage my feelings without running amok a bit.
Maybe this Mao's guy was under that kind of pressure at one point before making his deeds. Possibly...
I'd like to know which proportion of the population has this kind of stress inside, but i would be afraid to know it too. It must be a serious bit.

...But the too big truck or too small access...well sending motodops with small sprinklers won't do it, but how short of hoses are they to not be able to use the filthy sew...errr canal (Amsterdam, Venice, Phnom P...errr no) to pump water out of it ? Or are they short of pumping trucks ? Is the pump clogged with dead rats and styrofoam ? Or do they think at the mayor's office that it's a convenient way to reduce the presence of people in slums ?

Beautiful little truck though

How do you put out a fire with a sword?

In case anyone doesn't know this area, it's one of the worst shitholes within the whole city limits. It's the shacks along the remaining part of Boeung Trabek, just across the narrow bridge that only motorbikes and foot traffic can cross. If you don't feel like going down there in person check it out on Google Earth. It's where they prepare all those cockles and small clams that are sold off metal carts around town.

Sounds like a record to me.

Let's see is CEONews can dig up something that disproves it.

Well, no, but we had four houses in Siem Reap...

I guess the market fires don't count ? Many stalls are completely lost when the markets catch fire.

Mad arsonists?
Thailand, Vietnam, France, USA, King Moonface, KR, the current mob.

I realise this kind of pyromania does not even register for some people but burning houses, burning whole villages, is an international sport in Cambodia trancending even political ideology.
