Thailand closes borders to foreigners

Thailand is Cambodia's neighbor to the West, and this forum is dedicated to Thai news, stories, reviews, blogs, videos, Thai people and anything else related to the country. A lot of expats have both lived and worked in Cambodia and Thailand, and this area is a place to discuss all aspects of life in Thailand and what's going on there. Most topics are about Bangkok and Pattaya because of their larger populations of expatriates and tourists in those cities, but this is for all things Thai.

Thailand closes borders to foreigners

Post by phuketrichard »

Before u jump on me, i thought this was important enough to post as a separate Thread and can link to post407495.html#p407495
and lock this one...
Thailand has closed all of its borders - land, sea and air - to foreigners trying to enter the country.

However, borders will remain open to Thais returning from overseas and to foreigners who are in possession of a valid work permit. Diplomats will also be able to still enter the country.
The partial closure of borders was one of a number of measures confirmed by the Thai government on Wednesday as part of its recently announced emergency decree.

Borders will be closed from 26 March 2020.

Business such as factories, hospitals, banks, government agencies, transportation and security can remain open.
No curfew yet, but partial lockdown is here —

DPM Wissanu - inter-provincial travel is possible, but in future there will be checkpoints on various roads to observe and manage travels for now. THERE IS NO CURFEW

It should be an easy ride for Thailand, dictatorships are handling the lock down situations perfectly. :hattip:

The last time I heard something similar to "There is no curfew" in Thailand was in 2014, when Pinocchio famously said, "There is no coup" - two days before he staged a coup.

Phuket
curfew in place

Image
The Phuket Governor has been forced to announce an emergency curfew to prevent a repeat of last night’s spontaneous gatherings on Patong Beach. With all the bars and entertainment venues closed Governor Phakaphong has requested that tourists, both foreign and Thai, to remain inside their accommodation from 5pm until midnight, tonight.

looks like its only tonight
Now it’s been announced that all foreigners are banned from entering the country. But Thais stranded in other countries will be allowed to return.

The State of Emergency comes into effect at midnight tonight (Wednesday), and will remain in situ until the end of April , 2020. The decree covers all of Thailand.
So in effect, nobody coming here for 5 weeks,

@phuketrichard Do you think countries will start opening up their borders with Thailand if these little 3 week lockdowns proves there is nothing to worry about?

True but it is being increased by Malaysian. Most western countries have sealed their borders as well, soon provinces and the streets and villages will be sealed. I fully expect barricades to get into the next village coming. And Richard, although the virus originated in China, it is us westerners that are viewed with suspicion and us westerners that were bringing corona to Asia for the past month or so
