China "may" be preparing Mulberry barges for an invasion of Taiwan
Navel News at https://www.navalnews.com/naval-news/20 ... -landings/ has reported on barges (or piers) similar to the Mulberry Harbours used in the D-Day landings in Normandy.
Check the article linked and there's also a report in the FT
https://www.ft.com/content/36a00ba4-617 ... 0b59abe67f
The barges, or piers, have an extended ramp at the front, stabilizing pillars that could be extended to give the pier stability once in place and at the rear there appears to be docking facilities.
Analysts are at a loss to suggest any other use for the craft and lets not forget the old Russian aircraft carrier China bought that they denied they would be using as an aircraft carrier right up to the point where it the refurbishing work was finished and lo and behold it was their first aircraft carrier.
Things may go pear shaped in a year or so as the trade war with the US (and many other countries) hots up and China feels the bite at home. They may feel the need to give their citizens some gung-ho bravado and set to invading Taiwan.
How an invasion of Taiwan by China plays out for us here may well depend on whether the Taiwanese kick China's arse or not. If they do badly and the world turns against them I can see our illustrious leaders here suddenly becoming all chummy with the US while throwing China under the bus (diplomatically, of course)

Great thoughts. Mulberry harbors require sea control and air superiority. Neither of which China can guarantee. Otherwise harbors get destroyed in short order. Communists only took over Hainan Island through unconventional warfare that the Nationalist Navy wasn't expecting.
What it will do, is kill any commercial shipping and air travel that might consider going through the area. Bye, bye products going to and from Korea, Japan, including oil gas and internet.
And of course travel to Cambodia through EVA air won't be happening, either.

Let's just hope this thing collapses from the inside out. Absolute power corrupts absolutely. The Mandarin and Cantonese crowds are not as united as you might think. The Collosus Communist Union could simply fail if it actually faced a difficult global conflict. I doubt there are any aggressive measures that could challenge the status quo. There are certainly many mainlanders who support independence for Hong Kong and Taiwan, even the idea of breaking the Red Giant into smaller pieces and being less dependent on a centralized system that governs the people and uses the QR codes as whips to tame the freedom-loving individuals who seem so natural at being creative and inventive.
Subjective interpretations apply.

In a nation run by swine, all pigs are upward-mobile and the rest of us are fucked until we can put our acts together: not necessarily to win, but mainly to keep from losing completely. HST

Based on the article, I bet China will wait until April to invade. With Trump at the helm, China will have no problems getting Taiwan back. No way in hell the people of United States willing to commit the world into WW3. Russia on the other hand most certainly will take advantage of the situation to make matters worse for US.phuketrichard wrote: ↑Wed Jan 15, 2025 7:43 am they wont ever invade
