Can barang drive a small cc scooter without a license ?
Can barang drive a small cc scooter without a license ?
I need to take my daughter's Scoopy scooter(110cc) to the dealership deep into Phnom Penh.
Since I travel around using my ebike I don't have a drivers license.
Does anyone have experience riding small cc (under 125) motorbike around PP without a license ?
Can a barang drive a small cc motorbike without a license like Khmers can ?

I have driven around without or with an expired license on occasion, never usually any drama, but I do tend to avoid the obvious police spot checks on the routes; take a few back streets instead etc. They won't usually bother unless you go through a red light, have your headlight on, although that isn't against the law now since so many modern vehicles have running lights, but still makes you stick out as a barang).
Where is your from/to roughly, can give some feedback on junctions to avoid if you can to be extra safe.

125cc and under no license required.
Re: Can barang drive a small cc scooter without a license ?
Very true, sorry I went off track a bit - my thoughts were more that police are still more likely to pull a barang over for any perceived minor traffic violation, so should still take care. But yes a license is not required at all 125 & below, so just go & obey the law to the letter!

Coppers look.for low hanging fruit, being stopped for not having mirrors or helmet is much more likely than being asked for a licenseSpigzy wrote: ↑Thu Aug 22, 2024 9:24 amVery true, sorry I went off track a bit - my thoughts were more that police are still more likely to pull a barang over for any perceived minor traffic violation, so should still take care. Isn't that an urban myth? I've been driving a lot in PP during the last two years and been stopped twice, both times with a bunch of other Khmer drivers for jumping a red light. My impression both times was that the police were happier dealing with the locals than with me, even though I was just wanting to pay up and move on. I drive a Honda Dream, maybe you're more likely to get stopped on a machine with more attitude, which are more likely to be owned by barang?Spigzy wrote: ↑Thu Aug 22, 2024 9:24 amVery true, sorry I went off track a bit - my thoughts were more that police are still more likely to pull a barang over for any perceived minor traffic violation, so should still take care. Re: Can barang drive a small cc scooter without a license ?
I've checked and found I can't ride a bike under 125 cc. I can't seem to keep my balance. The doctor said he couldn't find anything wrong with me and said it must be the beer. I told him I would come back when he is sober.

I haven't driven in PP for over 10 years, but an urban myth it is not. A thing of the past, perhaps, but not so long ago it was common for traffic cops to racially profile and stop for no reason, then ask for license and get the overzealous barang just on that. Personal experience. I did appreciate the one who caught me with my headlights on in the day and said to me, "In Cambodia, we don't use our headlights in the day." I apologised for blinding him and started haggling.Marx wrote: ↑Thu Aug 22, 2024 10:28 amIsn't that an urban myth? An urban myth is certainly wasn't, but times change. Despite the fact that some posters seem to think that they don't.siliconlife wrote: ↑Sat Aug 24, 2024 6:43 pmI haven't driven in PP for over 10 years, but an urban myth it is not.
