Police Crackdown on Street Prostitution in Porsenchey, Phnom Penh

Cambodia News, (Phnom Penh): On the night of June 15, 2023, Por Senchey District Unity Command, led by Mr. Ith Chum Nith and Mr. Phon Sophan, Deputy Governor of Por Senchey District, cracked down and arrested many sex workers along Veng Sreng Road in Sangkat Choam Chao I, Khan Por Senchey, in order to educate them.


According to the authorities, local residents reported the presence of a large group of prostitutes on Veng Sreng Street, including women and transgender people, who were hanging about in the street waiting for an anonymous phone call from clients.

The force of the Por Senchey District Unity Command went to the scene and arrested many women who were then taken to the Po Sen Chey District Police Inspectorate for questioning and education.

Por Senchey - According to local sources, after dark, along Chom Chao Street or Veng Sreng Street around Vattanac Bank, there are always women standing in a line on the pavement, calling out to passersby to offer sex; affecting the dignity of Cambodian women and causing public disorder.



After receiving these complaints from the public, in an operation directed by Mr. Sak Chankanharith, Governor of Por Senchey District, police officers removed 34 sex workers for solliciting along the Veng Sreng street pavement and outside the shops: 14 women and 10 ladyboys were transported to the district police station.
