American child sex offender Caven Wayne Chaudoin is really interested in moving to Siem Reap

In the last couple of weeks there have been a couple of lengthy threads in the Siem Reap Expats & Locals public Facebook group started by an American named Caven Chaudoin.

He's interested in moving to Cambodia despite never visiting there because YouTube videos he has watched suggest Cambodia is a nice place to live with friendly people.

Chaudoin asked a lot of newbie questions about how to find an apartment, whether he can use American credit cards, how to buy property, etc. Apparently, he doesn't leave the USA much (if ever), yet he's very motivated to move to a particular place -- Siem Reap, Cambodia.

He got dozens of helpful and detailed responses this month advising him about moving to Siem Reap.

Apparently, no one thought to google the name "Caven Chaudoin" just to check if this dude has a shady past and possible ulterior motive for wanting to move to Cambodia.

It turns out he's a convicted child sex offender:

An article in the May 23, 1991 San Bernardino County Sun reported that Chaudoin, then 30 years old, was recently arrested for soliciting oral sex from a 15 year old undercover police explorer.

His criminal records available online also state that he was convicted in 1995 (at age 34 or 35) of "LEWD OR LASCIVIOUS ACTS WITH A CHILD UNDER 14 YEARS OF AGE BY FORCE OR FEAR" and "ORAL COPULATION WITH A MINOR UNDER 14 YEARS OF AGE OR BY FORCE OR FEAR."

He was released from custody/supervision/parole/probation in 2019













He is designated by the state of California as a sex offender with an above average risk of re-offending.







If this guy does move to Cambodia, maybe APLE and the bored FBI dudes at the U.S. Embassy should keep an eye on him.

Christ, he was only released in 2019? Don't these guys have to live in half-way houses for years and years and check in with probation officers for the rest of their lives and what not?

This is a myth. It's something that Brits believe because the UK restricts convicted sex offenders from traveling. The USA doesn't. Once you're off probation/parole, you're free as a bird. D

We know he was convicted in 1995 and "released" in 2019 but I assume he didn't actually spend 24 years in prison for this. More likely, "released" means released from supervision, i.e. this is when his post-incarceration parole/probation ended.

Maybe he was in prison until 2019.

Note that he boasts of "no tickets DUI's or preventable accidents last 25 years +"

Unfortunately California has dumb laws preventing the public from looking up criminal court case information online, so I don't know for sure.
