Tragic New Year: 17Yo Girl Found Raped and Murdered

Cambodia News, (Oddar Meanchey Province): In the most shocking and tragic event, the body of a missing 17-year-old girl was found half-dressed on the bank of a pond in Sangkat O Smach, Samrong City, Oddar Meanchey Province on April 16, 2022.

According to a source from the Facebook account, the victim and her friends went out dancing on the occasion of the Khmer New Year and then disappeared home. However, the victim never arrived home that night, and instead, her dead body was found lying near a local pond the next day.


According to the forensic results of the competent experts and doctors, the girl was raped and beaten to death with hard objects.

Currently, the authorities are continuing to investigate the case, inviting any possible witnesses to testify at the police station in Sangkat O Smach in Oddar Meanchey Province.

Manhunt is on for rape and murder suspect
Police are on a manhunt for a suspect in the rape and killing of a 17-year-old girl whose body was found in a river along the Thai-Cambodian border in O’Smach commune, Oddar Meanchey province.

Oddar Meanchey police said the victim was raped and strangled to death.

Samraong, the province’s capital, police chief Colonel Satya Ome-Ou said the victim was a construction worker.

Col Ome-Ou said the victim went to a pagoda in the village at about 7pm on Friday to celebrate the Khmer New Year.

He said when the victim failed to return home, it as then her parents went searching for her.

The victim’s body was found floating in the river at about 1.30pm on Saturday by a villager who alerted the police.

“According to our police expert’s conclusion, this case is murder,” Col Ome-Ou said.

“The victim was killed by strangulation after she was raped,” he said.

“After killing her, the suspect threw her into the river.”

O’Smach commune police deputy chief Captain Buon Song believes the suspect to be a resident
living in the same commune as the victim in Chamkar Chek village.
“We will hunt him down and bring him to justice,”he said.

Three Youths Arrested for New Year Rape and Murder

Anger erupted in an Oddar Meanchey village as three youths aged 15 to 18 were arrested for allegedly raping and murdering a 17-year-old girl during the night after a New Year village dance party, police said.

The girl’s body was found in a local stream in Samraong city’s O’Smach commune Saturday.

Samraong city police chief Ham Phirum said the three youths had confessed to police, but when they were taken to the scene of the alleged crime to explain their actions, a mob formed.

“Regarding the brutal and cruel act, people and family were very angry with them and wanted to use the power of the people,” Phirum said. “On behalf of the authorities, we prepared a force and explained to make them understand that in the Kingdom of Cambodia there is no death penalty.”

Cambodia News, (Oddar Meanchey Province): In a chilling confession, the three youths aged 15-18 years old admitted that they killed 17-year-old Long Kimlay so that she would not be able to witness that she was gang-raped. They threw the girl's body in the stream to get rid of the evidence.



According to a police source, following the discovery of the victim's body, the specialized forces researched and investigated the case until the arrest of 2 suspects: Pheak Seiha, male, 18 years old, residing in Opok village, Oddar Meanchey province, and Pheach Socheat, male, 17 years old, resides in Aphivath Village, Oddar Meanchey Province. They told police that a third youth was involved in the crime, and police then arrested Troy Chetra, male, 15 years old.


The three youths are being held in detention in the Oddar Meanchey provincial prison. They are charged with rape and murder.
