Re: An old German guy might shot himself in Sen Sok hospital
A more responsible report would have included the reasons for hospitalization and how he got hid hands on a gun in a hospital, if indeed it was suicide.
As my old Cajun bait seller used to say, "I opes you luck.

Looks staged. The recoil would move that gun away more. Upward and off bed. Whom needed the money?

Oh dear. Based on some of these articles, seems like you might be on to something here.Milord wrote:Looks staged. The recoil would move that gun away more. Upward and off bed. Whom needed the money?
And as always, I know that some people don't appreciate such graphic images. However, I consider it evidence. When police or authorities rule something a "suicide," I think it's good if people who choose to look into it are able to decide if they want to see images from the crime scene and decide if they think it's MURDER or SUICIDE themselves.
Positioning does look odd. Maybe some more witnesses will be quoted. The reports seem to all say that he was in the room alone when the trigger was pulled.
And would it even be a crime to give someone a gun if you knew there plan was to kill themselves?

From the Khmer Times:
Terminal German Man Commits Suicide in Hospital
PHNOM PENH, Apr. 8 (Khmer Times) — A German man was found dead in Sen Sok International University Hospital on Wednesday in what police are calling a suicide.
At around 5 am, hospital staff heard a loud gunshot and found Dr. Wolfgang Schmidtberg, who was staying the hospital due to terminal colon cancer, lying dead with a gun next to his head.
According to police, Dr. Schmidtberg requested his wife and brother-in-law bring a gun he owned to the hospital.
Mok Hong, a Sen Sok district police inspector, said Dr. Schmidtburg’s wife and brother-in-law were in custody at Sen Sok police station and being questioned.
“We believe the gun was brought to the hospital concealed in a black plastic bag by the two,” said the Mr. Mok. “The security guards at the hospital should have inspected visitors coming into the hospital.”
According to Sen Sok police, Dr. Schmidtburg was a former UNTAC staff member and assumed the gun was registered to him during that time.
The Sen Sok Police Department contacted the German Embassy, the police officer said.
“The embassy refused to send a representative to the hospital to inspect the body. So the body will be released into the custody of his wife after the investigation,” he said.
Dr. Schmidtburg was dentist who ran a clinic in Tuol Kok.

Oh shit, I missed this earlier!
Doctor Wolfgang Schmidtberg's Cambodian brother-in-law has been arrested for giving him the gun he used in the hospital to kill himself:
Man arrested for giving gun to ill relative
Police in Phnom Penh’s Sen Sok district have arrested a 36-year-old Cambodian suspected of having given a pistol he owned to his ill German brother-in-law so he could commit suicide.
Wolfgang Schmidtberg, 54, shot himself in the head in Sek Sok Hospital in the early hours of yesterday morning, Sen Sok district penal police officer Seng Sokheng said.
The German national was suffering from serious colon cancer and often received treatment at the hospital, Sokheng said. Hospital staff found his body at about 4:30am. Schmidtberg’s brother-in-law, Khuon Puthivong, was arrested later in the morning on suspicion that he provided the weapon used.
“He is accused of allegedly using a weapon without authorisation,” Sen Sok district police chief Mak Hong said.
“He gave his gun to his older brother-in-law so he could commit suicide in his hospital bed.”
It is not know if Puthivong had a legal right to.........
