Cambodia news in English! Here you'll find all the breaking news from Cambodia translated into English for our international readership and expat community to read and comment on. The majority of our news stories are gathered from the local Khmer newspapers, but we also bring you newsworthy media from Cambodia before you read them anywhere else. Because of the huge population of the capital city, most articles are from Phnom Penh, but Siem Reap, Sihanoukville, and Kampot often make the headlines as well. We report on all arrests and deaths of foreigners in Cambodia, and the details often come from the Cambodian police or local Khmer journalists. As an ASEAN news outlet, we also publish regional news and events from our neighboring countries. We also share local Khmer news stories that you won't find in English anywhere else. If you're looking for a certain article, you may use our site's search feature to find it quickly.

Chinese Man Chased to his Death at The Bridge, Phnom Penh

Post by CEOCambodiaNews »

Cambodia News (Phnom Penh): On July 16, 2021, at 3:30 pm in Sangkat Tonle Bassac, Khan Chamkar Mon, a Chinese man was chased down by several other Chinese men from an unknown restaurant on Koh Pich island into The Bridge building. The chase went through the parking lot, and finished when the man who was being chased plunged off the 7th floor to his death.

There were apparently no direct eye-witness of the incident to explain exactly how he fell off the building since the alleged chasers escaped the scene. The press was blocked from entering the building complex making it harder for them to identify the victim and the chasers.
Later on, the police examined the body, testing for Covid19 and investigating the cause of the fatal fall.

This entire paragraph, while incredibly comical, makes absolutely no fucking sense.

I love how it says there were apparently no eyewitnesses to explain how he fell. It virtually suggests the known golden rule of Cambodia - "Silence is golden. You saw nothing." Obviously, someone knows.

Then it says the victim's fall couldn't be explained because the alleged chasers escaped the scene. WTF, were they supposed to hang around and do a press conference?

Then it says that because the press was blocked from entering the building, it made it harder for them to identify the victim and the chasers. How the hell could the press identify the chasers anyways if they had already escaped?

I'm guessing the building had security cameras, which would surely assist the police if in fact they decide to do a real investigation. But in many places, the cameras themselves are supposed to act as a deterrent, because the cameras either aren't connected or not working properly.

Cambodia is starting to resemble Malaysia's triad period in the 80s and 90s. Guess that's considered progress... 20 more years to go before normalcy.

It's unfortunate that the OP wasn't allowed to contaminate the crime scene along with other members of the press.

Never mind pixelating the corpse, please pixelate that finger holding the phone ... :puke:
