Smart expands 4G coverage in nine provinces
8 Jul 2021
Cambodian mobile operator Smart Axiata has expanded its 4G network coverage across nine provinces with the deployment of more than 300 new base station sites during the first half of this year. The work forms part of its over USD90 million infrastructure investment plan for 2021 and has benefited the provinces of Siem Reap (78 new base stations), Kampong Cham (37), Battambang (39), Banteay Meanchey (24), Kampong Speu (17), Tboung Khmum (33), Prey Veng (25), Kampong Thom (24), Svay Rieng (23) and Kratie (nine).
‘We see ourselves at Smart as Cambodia’s key digital enabler, making fast and effortless connectivity available to everyone in the Kingdom, no matter where they live. Our emphasis on investments into the infrastructure that keeps Cambodia connected is more critical than ever as all of us rely on connectivity to work, study and stay in touch with friends and family,’ said Smart Axiata CEO Thomas Hundt, adding: ‘While maintaining full speed investments into the 4G network, a lot more new base station sites planned for deployment in the coming months, we can’t await to finally bring 5G to Cambodia too.’
