Chu Pong Massif we were soldiers

Do you have a Cambodian trip report you want to share? Post it here, and feel free to link to your blog if it's a travel blog for Cambodia, South East Asia, or anywhere really. You can ask and answer questions about travel advice in Cambodia or just share your pictures and videos with us. Most people who live in or visit Cambodia have also checked out nearby countries like Vietnam, Thailand, Laos, Myanmar, Malaysia, Indonesia and the Philippines, and you can get to most of these countries by traveling overland, so put any travel plans, reviews or questions here. Discussions about dirt bike trails in here as well.

Chu Pong Massif we were soldiers

Post by willyhilly »

Bought a nice hardback copy of We Were Soldiers Once And Young. I read it 20 years ago probably. But a re read was good. The first helicopter battle against the North Vietnamese Regulars. Both sides were keen for battle.
It took place east of Plei Mei in the Ia Drang valley on the Chi Pou Massif which straddles the Cambodian border.
Highway 78 turns into Viet Highway 19 near Ban Lung. The Mittaheap Casino is on the border.
Has anyone rode a moto to the border? Is it possible to cross? This was the first real battle of the war in 1965, helicopters and B52 strikes. A complete fuck up by the US but they sought a battle and found one.
Probably the best Vietnam book from our side.

Does the movie "We Were Soldiers" make any credits for a book? ( = Is the movie total shit vs. the book?)
