Quarantine-Free New Zealand to Australia Travel

New Zealand safe travel zone
From Friday, 16 October 2020, you can travel from New Zealand to Australia, quarantine-free, if:
you have been in New Zealand for 14 days or more and not been in a designated hotspot, and
you are travelling to Australia on an quarantine-free flight.
You do not need to be a New Zealand citizen to travel to Australia quarantine-free if you meet the above criteria, but you will need a valid visa to enter Australia. New Zealand citizens do not need to apply for a visa before coming to Australia. If eligible, they will be granted a Special Category visa (subclass 444) (SCV) on arrival.
A quarantine-free flight only carries passengers who have declared they have been in New Zealand for 14 days or more and have not been in a COVID hotspot in New Zealand in the last 14 days before travel. Quarantine-free flights will be determined by your airline.
Quarantine-free travel from New Zealand will initially be to New South Wales and the Northern Territory only. Other states and territories may be added at a later date.
The safe travel zone does not apply to New Zealand citizens who are outside New Zealand or who have not been in New Zealand for the last 14 days or more.

Re: Quarantine-Free New Zealand to Australia Travel
All well and good, to use an old cliche, but its one-way traffic only. Aussies are not allowed to leave their country, and anyway are not allowed to enter NZ. Plus any NZers who leave the country have to go into a quarantine hotel at their own expense for 14 days on return home. So makes you wonder who would take this deal? Maybe people with family members in crisis, people going for employment, or something like that I guess. Certainly would not be attractive to tourists.

The silly thing is though that while NZ is more or less Covid free, they can travel to New South Wales which has been having more new daily cases of Covid during the past week than Victoria.

Re: Quarantine-Free New Zealand to Australia Travel
the flow of Kiwi's to Oz ^^
It used to be because of the higher wages, and easier to seriously save in Oz.
But the flow has been going in the opposite direction for some time now, well before Covid.
Oz is just getting too brutally capitalistic, law of the jungle style, for us softie (Ha!) NZ "socialists" who want to build and shape a society, not be slaves to "The Ekomony".
And the free range cappo style seems to be sending things backwards in any case - for Joe Average in Oz.
Wages have stagnated for decades as "The Ekomony" booms.
Property prices have sky-rocketed, fab for the rich - and so too have the rents, let alone trying to first-time buy.
Saving is just a dream for many hard working Joe Average's in Oz today. Certainly much harder than before.
(still possible for some skilled workers tho', of course. And the life-style is still pretty good)
There were always more opportunities for tech and entrepreneurial types in Oz too, but the the situation in NZ is changing as the NZ economy matures. So, not as many leaving for this reason, and more returning to NZ.
Of course, La Jacinta is a huge pull factor too
Who would not want to live with that woman?
(duck)
nb, this refers to Kiwis flocking back home - not Aussies migrating across 'the Ditch" (the Tasman Sea)
That has never happened in big numbers - thank God.

Australian state of Victoria confirms 17 New Zealanders snuck into Melbourne, reminds Kiwis they can't take connecting flights
17/10/2020
Australian authorities are reminding Kiwi travellers landing in Sydney that they cannot take a connecting flight to Melbourne.
The Victorian government has confirmed to Newshub 17 passengers arrived at Melbourne Airport on Friday night. Currently, Victoria does not have a travel bubble with New Zealand - only states New South Wales (NSW) and the Northern Territory.
"Victoria has not agreed to a travel bubble arrangement with New Zealand and did not expect to receive international travellers as a result of NSW making that arrangement," said a spokeswoman for Victoria's Department of Health and Human Services.
"The Victorian government has made it clear to the Commonwealth that we expect NZ passengers who have not undertaken quarantine will not be permitted to board flights in Sydney bound for Melbourne."
Newshub has contacted Victoria police for further information.
According to a report by The Herald Sun on Friday night, the travellers slipped through domestic security to board the Melbourne-bound flight after landing in Sydney.
The report said they were detained and kept at the airport until a flight back to Sydney was available. It's unclear whether they will be able to remain in Sydney.
It came just hours after the first New Zealanders landed in Sydney following the commencement of a one-way travel bubble between NZ, NSW, and Northern Territory.
Earlier on Friday, Australia Prime Minister Scott Morrison said about 230 Kiwis had entered the country.

Re: Quarantine-Free New Zealand to Australia Travel
Well that took just 2 days for the first idiots to start breaking the rules
Re: Quarantine-Free New Zealand to Australia Travel
Last week they announced that the current travel ban on Australians leaving the country will probably stay until the end of 2021. I guess I just don't get that. Nearly every other country in the world allows its citizens to leave if they want to, and if they can get a flight - sure, Covid tests, quarantine on return, but can still leave. And not letting travellers in, understandable, many countries are the same. But not allowed to leave? Beats me.
