Sales-pitch for Cambodia

This is where our community discusses almost anything! While we're mainly a Cambodia expat discussion forum and talk about expat life here, we debate about almost everything. Even if you're a tourist passing through Southeast Asia and want to connect with expatriates living and working in Cambodia, this is the first section of our site that you should check out. Our members start their own discussions or post links to other blogs and/or news articles they find interesting and want to chat about. So join in the fun and start new topics, or feel free to comment on anything our community members have already started! We also have some Khmer members here as well, but English is the main language used on CEO. You're welcome to have a look around, and if you decide you want to participate, you can become a part our international expat community by signing up for a free account.

Sales-pitch for Cambodia

Post by Jacket »

So, a friend of mine and I had a little chat on facebook where I told him that I've moved to Cambodia again. When he asked me about the place and what I liked about it I was actually a bit stumped. I love Cambodia with all it's good and bad sides, but it's hard for me to put into words what exactely I liked about the place. "The freedom" seems to be a common answer, but that in it of it self doesn't really say a whole lot. Since I'm trying to talk some of my mates from back home into coming here I think that you guys are the best crowd to ask for this: What are some of the best points that speak for relocating to Cambodia? Give me your sales-pitch!

Take some positives from this thread: You count your lucky stars you're in Cambodia when...

Hmm no link.

Smoking in bars/ indoors
The beach is actually warm and sunny.
It's cheap rent.
There was no sarcasm or malice intended during the making of this post.

I have always said Cambodia is not for everybody. There are pluses and there are minuses. Cambodia is like a fungus...It just grows on you.

Freedom yes definitely. Freedom from the fast pace modern world. Granted if you actually worked here it might be different. Since this is my home between projects it's different for me.

.... Really I can't put it into words either.

Isn't it strange how the grass is always seen to be greener on the other side of the fence .. Here I am trying to talk to all my Cambodian mates into going overseas. Jacket, can you give me some info on your home country that will help them, instead of them slaving away here for $100 a month.
Cambodia,,,, Don't fall in love with her.

Many educated Cambodians, especially young people will leave this country to work in overseas ( mostly in Asian countries) by 2015. My salary is a lot more than $100, but I still feel that I deserve more than that amount.

What's wrong with snow and ice ? Better than 40 degrees C and 99 % humidity.

I think 99.9 % of the people that were living in the North Pole or the South Pole would disagree with you , maybe that's why they moved ?
