PHNOM PENH, Nov 21 (Phnom Penh Post/ANN): The Department of Culture and Fine Arts in Pursat province organised the second Khmer Culinary Arts Festival with this year’s festival focused on samlar kako with palm fruit (a traditional soup dish) and palm fruit cake desserts at the Koh Sampov Meas cultural borey to inspire the public to preserve Khmer culture and to show Khmer culture to tourists.
Pursat provincial culture and fine arts department director Lach Chengly said at the ceremony that the festival was intended to help contribute to the socio-economic development of the area and to encourage the public – especially young people – to understand and love the national culture and traditions so they would be inspired to help preserve them.
Tourists were also present for the event, according to the Facebook page of the Ministry of Culture and Fine Arts on November 19.
He added that in order to maintain accuracy, fairness and transparency, the department invited five judges to the event. In the coming years, the ministry plans to hold a national culinary arts festival so that outstanding candidates will have an opportunity to become winners at the national level.
The Facebook page said that Pursat provincial governor Cheav Tay has encouraged the leaders and civil servants in his provincial administration’s various departments to take more interest in the work of heritage conservation.
“For research relating to the history of each location we have to go down to study, compile and spread the Law on the Protection of Cultural Heritage and the sculpture and film laws widely to the public and strengthen the work being done in the province” he said.
The event also featured a concert programme and a variety of exhibition booths to showcase Khmer culture to domestic and international tourists amid the celebration of the Water Festival. - Phnom Penh Post/ANN
