When is a flamethrower not a 'flamethrower'?

If you have something so weird, strange or off-topic to post and think it doesn't belong in any other forum; you're probably right. Please put all your gormless, half-baked, inane, glaikit ideas in here. This might also be a place where we throw threads that appear elsewhere that don't belong ANYWHERE end up, instead of having to flush them. FORUM RULES STILL APPLY.

Why would an Elon Musk company develop a working toy flamethrower?

Post by StroppyChops »

Stumbled on this today - an Elon Musk company has developed a "Not a Flamethrower" which is being marketed more as a personal toy than anything.

Anyone know anything about this? Is it intended to be a not-gun-based personal weapon?

It is more of a BBQ starter than flame thrower.

Wasn't he quoted on Rogan as stating it was a roofing torch with an airgun sleeve added to make it look cool?

Dunno - what's a roofing torch? I imagine it's something to do with melting down asphalt onto flat roofs to form a seal?

Yeah, I noticed the YouTube thumbnail shows the flame of a military flamethrower and not the Musk one!

All a matter of proportions. Can an ordinary citizen obtain an M9? Or an X34? Doubtful. Elon Musk’s device? Probably.

The key ingredients are present. The possibility of modding..: endless.

You are one scary bastard!

Really only makes the question more interesting though - why would a Musk company release this, especially given it could be modded?

In America they could probably get an M16 or any other lethal weapon (for protection only) just not a serious flame thrower.

Mind you the amount of smoke it puts out would kill a black dog. =@

Headlines. Flamethrowers, accusing people of being pedophile, anything to garner attention....
