Translator Blamed for Mass Fainting in Chinese Factory
Phnom Penh, Cambodia News: On November 12, 2018, at 10:50 am, there was an unexpected episode of mass fainting when 39 workers, including two men, collapsed at Green Meadow Development factory, in Sangkat Pong Teuk, Phnom Penh.
According to reports, the mass fainting was triggered by Sroy Rotha, a Chinese translator at the factory. They say that he translated the management demands in such a harsh fashion to the factory workers that they collapsed after hearing his words.
[Edited: The man shouted at the workers in such a shocking manner that they fainted, one after another.]
The victims were all sent to the nearby Pochentong Referral Hospital for treatment.
Police have arrested Sroy Rotha and taken him away for questioning.

Re: Translator Blamed for Mass Fainting in Chinese Factory
WTF? My GF tells me her boss is mean to the staff and says that when the staff do something wrong she really gets up them..and one time called one guy a 'dog' and brought him to tears..
But bring them to fainting??
Bosses here have a lot of power over workers..back home the staff would tell them to get fooked or have mass protest if they were treated that way but here, they are too scared of losing their job apparently..

Re: Translator Blamed for Mass Fainting in Chinese Factory
So they arrest the translator?
Boss (to translator): tell that worker he is a dog
Translator (to worker): boss says you are a dog
Worker faints.
Exactly how less harshly can the translator translate this stuff and avoid being arrested by the police?

Usually in Cambodia it goes like this:newkidontheblock wrote: ↑Tue Nov 13, 2018 9:08 am So they arrest the translator?

Boss (to translator): tell that worker he is a dog
Translator: tells workers a tale about a dog
No faintings

Its not what was said that's the issue, it's the way it was said.newkidontheblock wrote: ↑Tue Nov 13, 2018 9:08 am So they arrest the translator?

Maybe similar to this:
Re: Translator Blamed for Mass Fainting in Chinese Factory
Where do they get these excuses. Nothing to do with poor working environment. 39 people dont faint because of what someones said.

Re: Translator Blamed for Mass Fainting in Chinese Factory
So management’s demands were not harsh in any way? Maybe management only had gentle demands for the workers and the mean translator made them harsh and caused the faintings?
Have a tingly feeling that management might not be the innocent angels the news is portraying them to be. Or maybe because it isn’t ExxonMobil and they aren’t boiling cute puppies for oil?

Maybe he told them they wouldn't get paid for next few months and all their dependents could starve to death.
or
Maybe he told them they were getting an Xmas bonus and they fainted in disbelief.
