3 Teenage Girls Drown in Kandal

Cambodia News, (Kandal province): Three teenage girls, students of Grade 10C of HE High School, Kampong Kong, Koh Thom District, went swimming together and drowned at 3:15pm on August 22, 2023 at the canal 19 in Pratheat village, Sangkat Prek Sdey, Sampov Poun city, Kandal province.

According to a letter from Mr. Chheng Sam Ol, Director of the Department of Education, Youth, Education, Youth and Sports of Kandal Province, the three students were:
1. Name: Keo Chansomaly, female, 17 years old, living in Trabek Pok village, Kampong Kong commune
2. Name: Mi Chheng Hang, female, 18 years old, living in Kampong Kong village, Kampong Kong commune
3. Name: Mang Lina, female, 16 years old, living in Kbal Damrey village, Kampong Kong commune, district Koh Thom, Kandal Province,

The director of the department said that on the day of the incident, the school allowed students from 7th to 11th grade to take 3 days off from 21st to 23rd August 2023 due to 12th grade students' second semester exam.

The victims and about 10 classmates went to visit the canal, and the three girls were swimming in the water when they got into difficulties, and so the boys took a raft out to try to rescue them, but it was too late and all three of them drowned. The other friends shouted for help, and the villagers came to help retrieve the bodies of the three young women and bring them to shore.
