Anyone else watching "Game of Stones" set in Cambodia?
Fucking hilarious. Just happened to open the TV for the first time in ages and fall on this Discovery Channel show "Game of Stones". This "team of experts" ends up in Pailin on a hunt for rubies which are reported to have originated there. The "security expert" is funny. Cambodia is full of drug lords, roaming gangs, arms dealers, king cobras and so on (I'm not exaggerating, these are quotes). I'm tired, but I want to see what else they'll say.
They're now in a "mine field" (I'm sure that wasn't set up... Discovery Channel would never do that).

Hahahaha, the guy has a machete on a stick and is prodding for mines at breakneck speed (actual prodding is super slow and takes hours). Man, got to love the fake drama!
[EDIT] Haha, now they're scared of hiring a boat because they think the rivers are being patrolled by armed gangs (they then show a video of guys on a boat with AKs). Priceless!

Saw that - what made me laugh was as soon as they left the rice paddy 'mine field' they trotted off through the jungle without thinking about mines again. Apparently land mines don't work in the jungle.Bitte_Kein_Lexus wrote:They're now in a "mine field" (I'm sure that wasn't set up... Discovery Channel would never do that).

Downloading season 1 now. It's a touch slow though.

Haha yeah. The mine field conveniently stopped there. They "narrowly escaped from an armed gang" (guys on a rubber plantation who looked confused). They then reached the mine and "had to eat before doing business" with the head miner. He offered them a bowl of crickets of course (which they couldn't refuse). Then armed thugs showed up on a dirtbike and they had to run away in a hurry... It's a bad staged drama set as a documentary. Totally scripted with hilarious filming, editing and music to create the illusion of intensity. I hope it appears on youtube so you can all see it and have a good laugh. Let us know what you thought diggr.

A friend of mine was doing some filming out in the sticks a number of years ago and they planted some land mine signs around the place to add to the atmosphere.
I've heard of crude catapults being used to get "authentic footage" of some kind of gliding lizard on National Geographic. Not to mention that setup in the deleted Battambang scene in Bizarre Foods on the travel channel.

thought it was really funny, lot of bullshit as well;
we used to travel south of Pailin from Boi Rai back in 87-88 an never got anything but small stones (lots of people with AK 47 thou)
What gets me is the guy is real an well know in the gem circle, yet the shows suck

Watched the whole series and it gets funnier by the episode. These guys get scammed and fucked over big time in some of the later episodes. Their "security" guy nicknamed "fear" is aptly named he's scared of everything One time they buy an emerald for about 60 grand and the guy breaks it while trying to cut it. The producer askes him how he feels. I thought the guy was going to punch him out Below are links to the torrents if anyones interested.

They are next favorite documentary after Jungle Gold on Discovery. The whole time when I was watching it I wondered to myself why did they not hire a local tour guide; instead they preferred randomly walk into the jungle speaking to the locals in Thai.
