The guys who beat the professor/hit & run vermin, should be given medals. Regardless if the people he ran over were dead or not, he ran over them injuring them in the process, while also injuring others, then tries to escape. Unless there's more to this story that we haven't been privileged to see yet (doubtfully), he got what he deserved. How could anybody possibly defend him and chastise the men who carried out immediate and proper justice?

There are two cases here

1. Hit and run, perhaps several instances, for which the professor must be held responsible

2/ Mob justice...various individuals, hold them responsible

BUT

I'm just concerned the first case against the professor will be forgotten...

This kind how this kind of mob vengeance can be satisfying in a country like Cambodia ( where guys in the black Lexus' can literally get away with murder) but is this really the way forward? Is that really the kind of place you want to live? Ever read/ watch "Lord of the Flies"?

Only reason these guys are getting arrested is because he is a professor, someone who has status. If this was an average joe or a barang its likely nothing would have happened.

the only reason is that the professor has an agreement with po po, as in any other case, po po would have said cannot find the perpetrator

Rare call for end to mob justice after brutal beating of CPP-aligned professor
22 March 2018
In a seemingly unprecedented move, Prime Minister HE on Wednesday called for an end to pervasive acts of mob justice following the violent beating of a Phnom Penh professor – who happens to be a member of a ruling party working group – and demanded the arrest of more perpetrators in his case.

On March 11, a mob descended on the car of Suy Sareth, an English professor at the University of Cambodia, after he was allegedly involved in a suspected hit-and-run that injured a motorcyclist.

Sareth – who is also a member of a Cambodian People’s Party working group in Kandal’s Koki Thom commune – was beaten, kicked, pummelled with helmets and had large rocks hurled at his head in videos that went viral after the assault.

Three people – Yath Tithya, 21, An Vinty, 21, and An Phally, 31 – have been arrested and charged with intentional violence, but police have not yet detained one of the key instigators of the mob beating, an allegedly former Daun Penh security guard Pheach Kimhak.

During a speech to garment workers in Por Sen Chey district on Wednesday, HE said such violence must be “condemned strongly”.

“We do not need people to gather to kill people,” he said, adding drivers who fled the scene of a collision must be arrested and sent to court, not chased down, assaulted and killed.

“We need to avoid becoming the anarchic country which has a record of extra-judicial killing,” HE said. “We will not allow the criminals to commit such an irresponsible act like this.”

While mob justice is common, a public high-level condemnation and actual arrests are exceedingly rare. The last time the premier spoke publicly about mob violence appeared to be his condemnation of a mob attack on two opposition lawmakers outside parliament in 2015.

Four arrest warrants issued in mob beating of professor, including two Daun Penh security guards
12 April 2018
Two Daun Penh district security guards are among four named in arrest warrants as suspected instigators of the brutal mob beating of a university professor last month.

The March 22 warrants, published by the National Police on Thursday, call for the arrests of Daun Penh guards Sam Sotheara, 22, and Pheach Kimhak, 20, as well as Seth Mesa, 23, and Sum Chhaya, 18.

The four are wanted on charges of intentional violence and damage with aggravating circumstances. The warrent(sic) says they have fled.

Three men have already been arrested in connection with the attack on University of Cambodia English professor Suy Sareth, 52, which occurred on March 11 after he fled the scene of a traffic accident before being chased down by an angry mob.

The warrants orders public forces to arrest the men and hand them to Phnom Penh Municipal Court before April 24.

Three others – Yath Tithya, 21, An Vinty, 21, and An Phally, 31 – were arrested on March 13 and 14, and held on charges of intentional violence and destruction of property in connection to the case.

In all, authorities are pursuing 10 suspects, said Bun Satya, the municipal police’s minor crime bureau chief. Three still must be identified.

Missus says he isn’t just a university professor. Like a sub minister for education or something like that. High up on the CPP. These guys randomly screwed with the wrong guy and HE is out to teach them a lesson.
