Koh Kong citizens - fishermen and their families, 9 Blowfish poisoning victims in the Kings Kirisakor Province last hour 4 pm on January 22, 2018. Initial reports from relatives and local officials said that after the incident, they tried to bring the victims to hospitals in which 6 people were taken to hospital Ambel district 2 people taken to hospital Province, while another victim in serious condition, died on the way, when sent to the hospital. The victim died in ward 4 Seaport near O-1.

Looks like the local variety is not as toxic as others and is eaten fairly regularly, at least in thailand

Pufferfish, called pakpao in Thailand, are usually consumed by mistake. They are often cheaper than other fish, and because they contain inconsistent levels of toxins between fish and season, there is little awareness or monitoring of the danger. Consumers are regularly hospitalized and some even die from the poisoning.

10 People had Food Poisoning after Eating Fugu Fish

Koh Kong: On January 22, 10 fishermen got food poisoning after eating fugu fish in Kirisakor district, in Koh Kong.
According to 27 year old victim Pich Sela, they all 10 had a party and ate the fugu fish, after that they were dizzy, vomiting and feeling weak. Then people around and police helped to take them to the Sre Ambel Local hospital immediately.
Furthermore, after the doctor cleaned the stomach, all the victims felt better, until now no one has died of that poisoning.
