Quick one. Yes I realize many of you will say this is incredibly foolish. Yes I understand there is a pile of paperwork. Yes I know how it will affect me (mostly), but I have had enough. For reasons which I will not get into (not evading taxes, not in legal trouble) I have decided to RENOUNCE my U.S. citizenship. I read somewhere an online statement which really does reflect my sentiment... something like: "this is not the country my parents grew up in" I will add: "this is not the country I went to war for and served 14 years of my life for only to be treated like a terrorist criminal for blowing the whistle on corruption". I have had enough. This is a serious decision. I still need to get to Cambodia, and needing to renounce in person, I may opt for doing it there. This will render me stateless in Cambodia and I am not sure what that means exactly. I do have a new baby in Cambodia and YES I realize you all think he would be better off in the U.S. I can tell you that he will not be.

Re: cya
gonna cost ya a pretty penny and unless u have tons of money and are concerned with paying tax, i can see ZERO reason to do it
with no passport ur fucked...
Have u gotten a "report of birth abroad" for ur child> have u applied for a passport for ur child. Ur doing a hell of a dis-service to him and ur wrong, he might not be better in the states BUT he sure as hell will be better off with a US passport
Yea, American has changed, Yea, its not the same place we grew up in the 50's, so what?

In a nation run by swine, all pigs are upward-mobile and the rest of us are fucked until we can put our acts together: not necessarily to win, but mainly to keep from losing completely. HST

I don't think you realize just how bad it has gotten for a certain 'demographic' of people. Not talking about the economy here. I am a TRUMP supporter but its too little too late. '3 letter' agencies have begun a depopulation event and my way is better than theirs. I just hope they accept my terms.
Re: cya
For the record. I love my country. I am the most patriotic person they have. I am deeply saddened by this. I feel like I have to put down my beloved dog of 15 years. I will cry the day it happens. Then get really drunk.

Re: cya
If you are disenfranchised with the US I can 100% understand as an American myself but......
This is the most selfish bullshit you could do. Once youve become a father that kid comes first.
Forget all the crap and think about your child.

Re: cya
highly inadvisable unless you can get a developed world passport first.
be aware that if you have substantial assets they may apply capital gains tax to them.

Re: cya
Strong words from you all and I am listening. No substantial assets. As for my son, I think I will agree that he will be better off with a US passport. I wish I could go into detail exactly the whats and whys concerning my decision. Maybe some of you know. Generally speaking, a child is 100% better off in the US. Not in my case though with or without me. Its just that bad now. It is.
