The rapidly-growing Chinese tourism market is expected to keep expanding and by 2020 an estimated 200 million Chinese tourists are expected to travel overseas, spending about $420 billion. Cambodia is also preparing for the boom and the Ministry of Tourism has promoted a strategy and action plan to attract Chinese tourists to the Kingdom.

In the first four months of this year, about 275,000 Chinese tourists arrived in Cambodia, an increase of 13.6 percent compared with the same period last year. Last year, 694,712 tourists from China visited the Kingdom and this was a 14.5 percent increase on 2014. But compared with neighboring Thailand and Vietnam, the numbers in Cambodia are low. In 2014, Thailand had 7.9 million Chinese tourist arrivals, while Vietnam had 1.6 million.

Khmer Times’ Sok Chan sat down with Thourn Sinan, the chairman of the Pacific Asia Travel Association (PATA Cambodia Chapter), to talk about the government policy aimed at attracting two million Chinese tourists, the services Cambodia can provide for them and the places where there is room for improvement in the tourism sector.

Been a lot of Vietnamese going to the islands and hanging out in Shv. Seen a fair number of Chinese in Samudera in twos and threes. I think you can be racist to the Chinese, they don't think racism is a thing

Chinese tourists to Cambodia jumps 20% in 2016
Cambodia last year recorded around 900,000 Chinese tourist arrivals and the country is on track by 2020 to host about 7 million foreign tourists, with 2 million of them coming from mainland China, according to the Tourism Ministry.

“In 2016, 900,000 Chinese tourists visited Cambodia and this was a 20% increase compared with 2015. Last year, we recorded 5 million international tourist arrivals and Chinese nationals were ranked second [after arrivals from Europe and other Western nations],” the Khmer Times on Wednesday quoted Tourism Minister Thong Khon as saying.

Khon predicted a bright outlook for Cambodia’s tourism sector this year.

“Tourism is expected to grow and by 2020 we can expect 7 million tourists, of which 2 million will be from China,” said Khon.

Last June, the ministry established the China Ready Centre (CRC) to cater to roughly 2 million Chinese tourists expected to visit the country per year by 2020, as well as to improve the skills of local tourist operators working with Chinese clients...

Their supermarket manners are probably the worst outside the Middle East; they make even the Koreans seem genteel.

I've taken a liking to elbowing them left and right in Samuera. Along with honking my horn at them when they're standing a foot in front of me, it's one of my favorite past-times.
