Cambodia Daily: Construction on a kilometer-long boardwalk linking Sihanoukville’s O’Chheuteal and O’Tres beaches began on Monday, with the provincial governor saying the project would result in the first evictions since the local government told seaside businesses to move out.

“The path will lead from O’Chheuteal to O’Tres. Work started today and the path is for use during Khmer New Year when many tourists will come to walk and cycle,” Preah Sihanouk governor Yun Min said on Monday, adding that the 8-meter-wide promenade would be located 50 meters from the ocean and would be about 1 km long.

LOL. Too far to walk, take the moto.
And AFAIK there's no construction along that bit of beach, except one or two shacks which are quite recent, so not much eviction necessary.
This has turned into quite a saga, but a lot more words than action for the moment. Be interesting to see what happens in the end - maybe not much ?

Did you see that the construction is to be finished before Khmer NY - next Wednesday ?

Great idea, yeah. But frankly there's no shortage of ideas for SV or grandiose plans; resorts, casinos, giant shopping malls, hotels, leisure centres, you name it. And every man and his dog seems to be filling in their local swamp/back garden to build high-rise apartments. You wouldn't believe the great ideas going on here. It's realism that's the bugger. In the KOW, this is Alice in Wonderville.

Sorry a bit OT. Maybe I'm just a cynic and there will be a splendid promenade of Ikm long and 8m wide built within the week.

I suppose this is connected somehow, but i don't really get where they are going to build another road as there is already a big road under construction just behind the Sokha Hotel:
...The government has ordered the beachfront Sokha Hotel in Preah Sihanouk province to open a section of fence that blocks access to a stretch of beach, as well as construct a direct, paved route for pedestrians and cyclists making their way to the waterside.

A letter from the Council of Ministers dated March 31 outlined a plan to improve the Preah Sihanouk beach with an eight-meter-wide road flanked by three meters of sidewalk on either side. The road will be built to give beach access to cyclists and pedestrians, and in addition to some state-owned land will infringe upon 5,619 square meters of land now leased by the Sokha Hotel, which will be reclaimed by the government for the project.
The company that owns the hotel will be required to foot the bill for the asphalt road, as well as take responsibility for its pavement and any infrastructure it requires, Deputy Governor of Preah Sihanouk Chan Seng Nguon said. He added that the Sokha Hotel will also be responsible for the maintenance of the beach.

Mr. Seng Nguon said the initial plan to develop the road had it running only on public land, avoiding area leased by the Sokha Hotel. But the road, he said, would have been curved and inefficient. Officials decided to build a straight road on Sokha Hotel’s land instead...

I don't know the area but:

".....land now leased by the Sokha Hotel, which will be reclaimed by the government for the project.

The company that owns the hotel will be required to foot the bill for the asphalt road, as well as take responsibility for its pavement and any infrastructure it requires, Deputy Governor of Preah Sihanouk Chan Seng Nguon said. So the land is being compulsorily acquired by the government & the hotel has to fit the bill!

Interesting - that is a pretty ordinary piece of work!
