The Australian man has been identified as JONATHAN WILLIAM BOND, 24 years old and an English teacher at Western International School (Western University) which is located at Tulsvay Prey1 commune, Chomka Mon district on Street 338, Home 125 E1, group 22, village 5, second floor of a flate, where is located at Tulsvay Prey 2 commune, Chomkar Mon district, Phnom Penh.
The guest house owner's name is Sem Sok Khuch, 36.
According to the guest house owner's relative, before the case happened, the Australian man, a teacher at Western International School came to rent a room almost one month ago. And on the 20th of February 2016, the guest house owner and his relatives went to Sihanoukville for their holiday and where still they're when he died.
However, the guesthouse owner's sister whose room is nearby the Australian man's room smelt a horrible odor and and decided to look to see where it was coming from. She assumed that there was a dead animal nearby, but she couldn't find anything. After that she entered Jonathan Bond's room and eventually, she found him dead already, lying naked.
After seeing this, she quickly informed the police. They investigated the scene and found a syringe near him, which they think was used to inject drugs.
After the "autopsy" the authorities think that Jonathan Bond had already been dead for about 4 or 5 days and died from a drug induced heart attack.
His corpse is being kept at the Khmer Soviet friendship Hospital in Phnom Penh.
Here is Jonathan Bond on Facebook announcing his plans to move to Phnom Penh:
"HEAR YE! HEAR YE! Due to some unforeseen changes in my overall life plan I have moved to Phnom Penh, Cambodia for at least the next year.
I'm teaching at a uni and I'm about to move in to my very own apartment. As I result I will be using fb considerably more and may even post photos to prove this is not a elaborate hoax.
If anyone is ever in the country or has friends that want insider tips just hit me up. I'd more then happy to show people the cheapest and/or best places to drunk (among other things of course)."
Looks like he's been planning to leave Australia and travel the world TEFLing since at least 2011:
"well....i have moved down to campbelltown, still working in the same place but not for much longer coz i am studying TESOL at tafe which is a 10 week course and then i am hoping to teach english as a private tutor in adelaide while i wait for my girlfriend to finish uni (she's 20 so she only has another year after this one) and then off to see the world. so pretty much i am on the fast(er) track to a career and an adult(ish) life."
A shame how quickly drugs can ruin everything for you. He didn't even last a year in Cambodia.
