This is really insane. I know it is hard to control your feeling when it comes to thing like this. However, it seems like more and more of Cambodians don't really have critical thinking skills. I guess the belief of reincarnation is also a motive for this massive suicide lately.

Young people tend to overestimate the importance of events in their lives. In my late teens, breaking up with a girlfriend seemed like a cataclysmic event that I might never recover from. In hindsight it seems utterly ridiculous. It's pretty sad that this youngster felt that killing himself was the only solution to a situation that was of no real importance.

i think Cambodians need to learn more about life and also learn to love our life.

Yes, many Cambodians are really sensitive because they don't travel a lot. When they sad, they shouldn't be alone. Life is colorful when you can struggle in the hard time and can see how the big world great is!

Genuine question: is life thrown away so easily because reincarnation?
(Yes, I know, it's being "rebirthed into a different plane", but do Cambodians know?)

ive always put it down to this, was actually telling my mates at work about all these crazy hangings and how the khmer people seem to not have this fear of death/willing to take their own life so easily,
and the only explanation i could come up with was to do with reincarnation/samsara

''it seems like more and more of Cambodians don't really have critical thinking skills. ''
Or conflict resolution skills. Perhaps a distinction without a difference.
IMHO

And many have mental health problems, a low frustration threshold, chronic malnutrition/low IQ, no education, drug/alcohol problems, poverty and difficult living conditions - none of this helps with critical thinking, objective perspective or conflict resolution. Add to this an extremely small world view, adolescent angst and the importance of the loss of face.
And somewhere in all that, these suicides represent a lack of hope in the future and a belief that things can get better in this life.
Depressing indeed.
