Cambodian Police Nab Chinese Suspects in 200kg Drug Bust

[CAMBODIA NEWS] In a significant operation on July 23, 2024, Cambodia's Anti-Drug Department unveiled two Chinese nationals (TAO WEI and HUI SONGHENG) suspected of drug trafficking and seized over 200 kilograms of illicit substances. The drugs were allegedly intended for international distribution.



General Kheng Sarat, Director of the Anti-Drug Department, reported that the operation was conducted under the guidance of senior police officials, including General Neth Savoeun, the National Police Chief.

The operation, which spanned several months, culminated in the arrest of two suspects. The first arrest occurred near Prek Samrong Bridge in Takhmao City, Kandal Province. The second suspect was apprehended near Koh Nora Bridge, with assistance from Phnom Penh police.

The suspects were identified as Tao Wei, a 41-year-old Chinese national, and Hui Songheng, a 42-year-old Chinese national. Following their arrest, the suspects, along with the seized drugs and two vehicles used in the operation, were presented to the public.

General Sarat emphasized the meticulous nature of the investigation, which required several months of careful planning and execution. The operation was carried out in coordination with the prosecutor's office of the Kandal Provincial Court.

The case has been forwarded to the Kandal Provincial Court for further legal proceedings.
