Pedestrianizing Phnom Penh Riverside

The long-awaited transformation of multiple streets in the Riverside area into pedestrian zones is finally set to happen. These streets will become pedestrian-only from 6 pm to 11 pm. Work is scheduled to commence in May, with all pedestrian streets expected to be ready for the New Year 2025 celebrations.

Few years ago there was proposal by Ses Aronsakda for pedestrianizing the Riverside area.

Phnom Penh new pedestrian streets spans 57 hectares in the Daun Penh district, encompassing a vibrant mix of shops, restaurants, hotels, bars, and entertainment spots. Work is scheduled to launch in early May 2024, it aims to cater to both local and international visitors for shopping and nightlife, with completion set before the Global New Year celebrations in 2025.
Mr. Sam Piseth, Director of Phnom Penh's Department of Public Works and Transport, detailed the three zones comprising the pedestrian street's 57-hectare area.
The first zone, located in front of the post office:
North: Street 94
South: Street 106
West: Street 13
East: Sisowath Quay (designated as Food Street and Shopping area).
The second zone's boundaries are:
North: Street 106
South: Street 184
West: Street 13
East: Sisowath Quay (designed as the Pop Street area).
The third zone, Pedestrian Street Zone 3, is bordered by:
North: Street 184
South: Sihanouk Blvd
West: Street 07
East: Sisowath Quay (organized as a recreational area).
Mr. Sam Piseth emphasized that these zones will be transformed into lush green spaces with well-lit gardens, equipped with amenities such as toilets, temporary parking, and a variety of shops, eateries, and entertainment venues. Once completed, the pedestrian street will be open to visitors, offering shopping and enjoyment opportunities from 6 pm to 11 pm.
