Two Found Dead in Koh Kong Mangrove Murder-Suicide

Cambodia News (Koh Kong): On the morning of 2 February 2023, the dead bodies of a man and a woman were found at Ta Chat village, Mondul Seima district in Koh Kong province; the dead woman was discovered in a 2002 Camry car (2AH 6044) which was under water, and the man's body was hanging from a tree nearby.
Koh Kong police authorities said that after a preliminary investigation into the two deaths, they classified the case as a murder-suicide. According to them, the man killed the woman in the car before driving the vehicle into the ocean. He then committed suicide by hanging himself from a mangrove tree.
The man was identified as 54-year-old Sam Sok, a salesman living in Mondul Seima District, Koh Kong Province, but the dead woman has not been officially identified by name. She was not his wife.
Sam Sok's wife told police that her husband had telephoned her the night before to say he was staying out late. He never returned home.
The next morning, a 7:50 am on 2 February 2023, a local fisherman saw a man's body hanging from a mangrove tree, which he reported to the authorities and the Tuol Koki administrative post. The police then went to the scene where they also found the Camry car under water with a dead woman inside.
The car was towed ashore and the bodies were recovered, while police set up a forensic committee to conduct immediate post mortem examinations of the two bodies at the crime scene.
At present, the bodies of the victims have been handed over to their families and relatives for a traditional ceremony.
