Bail Refused for Chinese Weapon Trafficker Busted in Sihanoukville

Cambodia News, Phnom Penh: The Supreme Court on the morning of February 1, 2023, announced that they refused the bail application of a Chinese man who was remanded in custody by the Sihanoukville provincial court, following his arrest for trafficking illegal weapons in August 2022.

Kong Srim, Chief Justice of the Supreme Court, said that the accused was named as TANG GUO HUI, a 32-year-old male Chinese national, and that the Preah Sihanouk Provincial Court had ordered his pretrial detention on charges of "illegal arms trafficking". The defendant appealed, asking to be released on bail, but the Preah Sihanouk Court of Appeal upheld the decision, so he continued to appeal to the Supreme Court.

During the arrest, the Sihanoukville police confiscated the following items from a car being driven by the suspect: - 1 AK weapon, 3 pistols with black ZORAKI brand and magazines, 1 SIG SAURER brand , 240 bullets (265 total). The Chinese man would not reveal the provenence of the weapons in his possession. Bail has been denied by the Supreme Court.
