Three Miners Killed in Unlicensed Gold Mines

Cambodia News (Preah Vihear Province): Two mine accidents occurred, killing three men. On December 20, 2022, at 5:00 pm two miners were killed by electrocution while working at a gold mine in Preah Vihear belonging to a man called Thea, while another man was reported to have died from exhaustion at a gold mine in Kratie.
The victims who died from electrocution were Borey, a 37-year-old man, and Yorn Yoeurn, a 35-year-old man, who are from Tropang Totem village, Romtom commune, Rovieng district, Preah Vihear province. The other victim was Pen Sreng, a 53-year-old man from Ksach Tok village, Chroy Banteay commune, Prek Brosop district, Kratie province.
According to the source, the owners don't have a license to operate the mines, work safety conditions are dangerous, and the equipment used by the miners is often old, shoddy, and substandard.
