Man Dies of Self-Inflicted Burns While Awaiting Ambulance

Cambodia News (Phnom Penh): A 36-year-old man, Pov Oun, who suffered from mental illness, burned himself to death at 12:50 am, on May 8, 2021, in a rented room in Khan Meanchey, Phnom Penh.
According to the victim's wife, Lon Sineth, 32 years old, her husband had been mentally ill for 5 to 6 years before this incident. She said that her husband argued with her that night and took a knife trying to attack her, so she left, and went to sleep in the neighbor's room.
After that, her husband set himself on fire in their room, and although the wife and the neighbor smelt the burning and came to help put out the fire, the husband was seriously burnt.
The police went to the scene and contacted an ambulance to come and take the victim to the hospital. But, after waiting for over an hour for the ambulance, which did not arrive, the victim died of his burn injuries.
The police examined the body and returned it to the family for funeral preparation. RIP.
