As usual the Cambodian press gets the who, what, where, when part, but not the why and how. The most interesting part! I guess that would take a little journalistic leg work. Lazy bastards.

I notice that on the notice board no one wants to discuss any details either. “Just RIP please.”

Expat deaths over here always have this air of mystery about them. Must be very frustrating for those back home looking for some details on their loved one’s death.

From all appearances it smacks of death by misadventure.

Officially he drowned while swimming.
Yet he was fully dressed with shoes and face mask on.

Natural causes (excessive lifestyle included), drug related misadventure, suicide and road fatalities would almost cover it, wouldn't it? I'm not sure many are that mysterious.

Those broad brush stroke certainly cover it but the devil is in the details. Or lack of them.

What happened? and when?

We are told an “autopsist” was at the scene. Any garden variety ME could look at the rigor mortis and determine the estimated time of death. That’s one potential piece of the “mystery” gone. Yet nothing is reported.

The place the body was found is not given, just the district Andong Khmer, a huge area. The current in that river is quite strong. I know, I swam across it several times. The actual place he went in the water could be a kilometer north or more. I know there’s a lot of Riverside resorts up there that have just begun to party again after the lifting of the alcohol ban and curfew.

Did the police look for people who knew him and might’ve been with him that night and could maybe shed some light on the circumstances?

And what about this guy?

He certainly looks like he’s got something to add to the story.

I could go on.

In short there are too many holes in the narrative. Just like most stories featuring expat deaths.

And thus the “air of mystery” if you will.

My garden variety brain tells me that rigor mortis is more likely to be established on a body that has been in one place (bed/field etc..) than a body which position has been tossed and turned due to the current and the temperature of the river from the moment the body entered and left the water.

Person died, tragic enough.
Trying to argue point being made from poster before.
Never implied or speculated anything about wild murder stuff.
At least you - would be fashionista - can enjoy your happy hour.
