Cambodia news in English! Here you'll find all the breaking news from Cambodia translated into English for our international readership and expat community to read and comment on. The majority of our news stories are gathered from the local Khmer newspapers, but we also bring you newsworthy media from Cambodia before you read them anywhere else. Because of the huge population of the capital city, most articles are from Phnom Penh, but Siem Reap, Sihanoukville, and Kampot often make the headlines as well. We report on all arrests and deaths of foreigners in Cambodia, and the details often come from the Cambodian police or local Khmer journalists. As an ASEAN news outlet, we also publish regional news and events from our neighboring countries. We also share local Khmer news stories that you won't find in English anywhere else. If you're looking for a certain article, you may use our site's search feature to find it quickly.

Cambodia News (Mondulkiri): On April 9, 2021, at 12:45 pm, a man broke his leg after getting attacked by a wild elephant in Putrum village, Sen Monorum district, Mondulkiri. The victim was identified as Phoeun Kavy, a 21-year-old man.

The police received the information that an elephant was destroying a plantation, so the police collaborated with the farm owner, went to the scene, and saw an elephant destroying the plantation. Then suddenly, the elephant charged the people, causing a man to get injured as he tried to flee.

Mr. Kan Penh, the inspector, said the elephant came to destroy people's plantations every year, so he requested the locals to be careful.

Get charged by a wild elephant and survive with just a minor foot injury = a very good result

I think he injured himself trying to run away from the elephant, rather than was injured by the elephant. I’m imagining a clusterfuck situation involving the people as the elephant charged.

He's had a lucky escape, could have easily been seriously injured or killed

Maybe a ricochet?

I love the way elephants are accused of 'coming to destroy the plantations every year' - forking environmental vandals

Yes, a kinda funny news report.
Elephant trashes crops. Crop owner calls police etc. Everyone goes for a look. Elephant charges them and they run away - one guy gets a broken leg. Authorities tell locals to be careful because this event happens every year.

Beware of wild elephants when planting crops in the territory where they forage for food ?
