I see his visa expired in September 2014. I'm guessing his visa situation is more up to date than most in Sihanoukville.

I wonder if they're given the chance to pay and stay or if they're just booted.

Part of a new crackdown on dodgy Russians down there since the uptick in mafia-style violence or just one unlucky guy?

How did they know where to find him ?
Maybe he was behind on his rent too ?

Maybe a combination of both. Strange how they blur out his face. That's not protocol.

Maybe they just got around to checking it. I seem to recall police coming by a few of my homes in PP to verify that the visa they had on file for me had been renewed.

He gave that address when the visa was issued in March 2014 and he's still living in the same place even though he knows he's illegal ? Very stupid;

I always put my address down as XXX Hotel PP , but I haven't stayed there for about 5 years so I guess they are still looking for me. :) But then my visas are always up-to-date.

More likely someone dobbed him in to immigration because ...he annoyed them, he lost his job, he couldn't pay his rent/debts etc

No, I mean that whenever he started staying there (presumably before September when his visa expired) they turned in his visa info to local police.

And I wasn't aware we had to give an address or anything when getting visas, although I guess there was a blank somewhere on the immigration form when entering, which is probably left blank by almost everyone, especially those who enter by bus and let them do it all.

I got pulled over by cops last week opposite Independence beach. They were interested in hearing me talk and asked if I had any guns. When they found out I was an American the smiles came out. Just around the corner were a bunch of cops with cop bikes. Kind of unusual.

Why did they smile because you are an American ?
