Impudent Ex-Con Steals Bag from Sleeping Woman

Cambodia News, Prey Veng: A man with a history of jail time was caught red-handed stealing a handbag from Vann Vantha, a 52-year-old Cambodian woman, who was sleeping on the porch of her home in Chbar Ampov district, after lunch, on 2 May 2020.
The suspect, identified as Sok Phearun, a 40-year-old Cambodian national, crept up on the sleeping woman who had posed the bag on her stomach for safe keeping while she slept. However, when the thief grabbed the bag, the woman woke up and began to scream loudly.
The suspect ran off, but at 4:30 that afternoon the authorities arrested the suspect in Boeung Chhouk village, Niroth commune, and confiscated the bag, which contained US$200, and returned it to the owner. The thief, who is known to local police, was sent to the Chbar Ampov Police Inspectorate for questioning, where he has been charged with theft, and also tested positive for drugs.
