Kampot’s Dam Construction Project in Pipeline
AKP Phnom Penh, March 11, 2020 --

Cambodia and China have entered an agreement on construction of dam worth US$800,000 at Kampong Bay creek in Kampot province.

The agreement was signed between H.E. Dr. Cham Prasidh, Senior Minister and Minister of Industry and Handicraft and Mr. Wang Tiefeng, Managing Director of Sinohydro Kamchay Hydroelectric Project Co., Ltd. here in Phnom Penh on Monday.

H.E. Dr. Cham Prasidh shared about the significance of the dam construction, stressing that it will enable water from Kamchay Hydropower dam of about 1,770 million cubic metres in Kampong Bay creek a year.

The amount of water, he added, will allow the water treatment plant to produce clean water with the current need of 22 million cubic metres annually by the locals.

You don't build a dam for 800k

Reading between the lines it's for either a sluice or a pipe for the water treatment plant coming from the existing dams reservoir.

Would be handy irrigation for the sought after pepper crops, or it could be the cement plant would benefit.
