border closure

I have been reading on more than one VN facebook site about new rules for Europeans trying to go across the border there and being turned away. Not a word about it on here or TOF. I am supposed to go over in a few days. When does VN close it to all foreigners? When to Cambodians? This is a fucked up situation for sure. I am surprised I hear no mention of it here.

This was posted on Friday at Vietnam News. It's not a closure but a mandatory declaration upon entry at the airport or online, as the story notes.
HÀ NỘI — Everyone entering Việt Nam from abroad will have to complete a medical declaration form to enter the country from 6am on Saturday.

The new regulation to prevent the spread of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) applies to both foreigners and Vietnamese nationals.

The situation is very fluid, to say the least:
A girl just called tan son nhat airport and got this info....
UPDATE: so I decided to call to TSN airport for clear information and they said:
From March 7, all people arriving in Vietnam must complete the health declaration.
Temporarily, travelers from China, S. Korea, Iran and Italy are banned. Except if they are diplomats.
Visa exceptions have been suspended for the EU and other countries part of the ASEAN. They will only be able to enter if they have a tourist visa issued in their country of residence in advanced, and each case will be analyzed in a particular way to determine if quarantine is necessary (it means that there is no mandatory quarantine for people who simply came from the EU and UK- except for Italy)
Travelers coming from Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan can come in normally, they should fill out the health form and will not be quarantined as long as they do not show symptoms (this one doesn't make any sense to me.. considering how strict are the other measures.. but ok)
The most important thing to know is that each case is being analyzed separately. So we can't make sure. I exposed my particular situation and informed that mostly they should be fine, but things could change any minute.

This has the most up to date Viet government orders.
Vietnam now requires all travelers from Cambodia to fill out health declaration forms, after a transit passenger from Japan tested positive from the virus. In addition, health authorities will require all passengers arriving from any country into Vietnam to fill out health declaration forms from March 7.

I will fill out all the forms they want as long as they let me in. Just had a look at Kayak in case I have to fly to HK to get my connection on my own. Nothing gets me there before my connecting flight leaves. Christ what a pain in the ass. Hopefully nothing changes in the next 5 days.

From someone on Giant Ibis yesterday at the border. No entry to Vietnam (with or without health declaration?) Sounded like a blanket ban.Image

Wow, I guess I was lucky. But I arrived in Saigon last Tuesday from Bangkok on VN Airlines. I was asked at check-in whether I'd been through China or Korea recently.

When I arrived at SGN at noon hour, there was not a single passenger from another airline and the immigration desks were empty. We had to stand around for a few minutes. Otherwise, there were no inbound body temp checks that I was aware of and no questions.

Maybe arriving by air is the more sure way to enter VN.

Vietnam has temporarily suspended visa exemptions for citizens of these countries:

South Korea

France
Italy
Sweden
United Kingdom
Denmark
Finland
Norway
Citizens from other countries with more than 500 confirmed cases of COVID-19, or more than 50 new cases per week, will be denied entry to Vietnam at this time.

With special exceptions only, all travellers arriving from and who have transited through mainland China, Daegu and Gyeongsangbuk within the past 14 days will be refused entry to Vietnam at this time.

Entry to Vietnam for UK passport holders.
https://www.gov.uk/foreign-travel-advic ... quirements
Until 30 June 2021, ‘British Citizen’ passport holders travelling for tourism or business can enter Vietnam for up to a maximum of 15 days (inclusive of dates of entry and exit) without a visa. If you have a different type of British nationality – for example ‘British national (overseas)’ you’ll need to get a visa before entering Vietnam.

On 8 March, the Vietnamese Government announced plans to suspend the visa waiver programme for UK and other European nationals. This change could be implemented at very short notice. British citizens planning to enter Vietnam on the visa waiver programme should check before travelling.
Call the Embassy. You may need a visa.
