Residents Ask Stung Meanchey II Police: Where Are You?

Post by CEOCambodiaNews »

Cambodia News, (Phnom Penh), 22 December 2021:According to residents of Stung Meanchey, there is a fishing game location in Village 5, Sangkat Stung Meanchey 2 under the Stung Meanchey flyover at the entrance of Duong Hem Street, behind Vattanac Bank on Street 271.
Residents revealed that in addition to gambling, shooting and fishing games, the place is also a nest of drug addicts. People see children and teenagers entering and exiting the place to play fishing games and buy drugs happily all the time. Despite the fact that this is known to everyone, the residents do not see any efforts by the police of Stung Meanchey 2 and Meanchey district to crackdown on that place.
Image
Residents stress that it is very difficult for them to live here today, noting that due to the local presence of so many drug addicts and thieves, they worry about their children. They fear that one day their children will be addicted to gambling, drugs, and be dragged into various evil things. They are also concerned about drug addicts who are violent robbers.
Residents do not know where the Chief of Stung Meanchey 2 and the Police of Meanchey District are, what they can be so busy with every day, since they are too busy to crack down on gambling crimes and drug dealers, and making the neighborhood secure.
Image
Note that in the past, HE Khuong Sreng, Governor of Phnom Penh, committed to eradicate all types of gambling in Phnom Penh and has warned district governors who are not cracking down on gambling in their jurisdiction. However, it is widely observed that the order of the Governor of Phnom Penh has not been observed in most districts of Phnom Penh, and all kinds of gambling places with drugs and criminal activities continue to exist.

Under the Stung Meanchey Flyover, Phnom Penh: A homeless woman who was addicted to drink and drugs died on the pavement of St 271 under the Stung Meanchey flyover in May this year.
Coincidentally, that is also the location given for the gambling den selling drugs in Stung Meanchey 2 district, mentioned above.

All over Phnom Penh, local people are asking the same question:

Daun Penh Residents Ask Where are the Police ?
Image
Cambodia News (Phnom Penh) 23 December 2021: A gambling place with Jokerball and many other types of betting on Street 15 in Phsar Kandal 1, Daun Penh is running smoothly, but Daun Penh district police are nowhere to be seen, despite the many customers coming and going. Note that recently, Mr. Sok Penh Vuth, Governor of Daun Penh District, had announced his strong determination that there shall be no gambling in Daun Penh District, but the announcement of this District Governor has melted like salt on water.

Image
Gambling is taking place in Daun Penh district locally and in broad daylight but authorities don't seem to care at all. Residents of Daun Penh revealed that the reason Daun Penh district authorities refuse to crack down on gambling in their jurisdiction was because the owners of those gambling sites pay bribes to the authorities to shut their mouths. It is no wonder that crimes of theft and robbery in that district are rampant, causing many innocent people to suffer incessantly, even to the extent of bodily injuries and loss of life in some cases.
Image
Regarding the location of the above-mentioned gambling den, the agent of the "KBN" press unit called 012 955 999 to Mr. Teang Chansar, Daun Penh District Inspector, to ask for further information, but when the line got through, he was cut off suddenly when he announced his identity.
The public is waiting nevertheless to see if the Daun Penh District Governor Sok Penh Vuth and Daun Penh District Police Inspector Teang Chansar will react to supress gambling offenses and crime within their jurisdiction.

I wonder what or who is behind these articles, because the thrust of them is slightly odd. Like it seems to be really worked up about electronic fishing games and drug taking, but treats thefts and assaults as kind of a given?

Ever been to (or even walked past) a fishing game hovel in Phnom Penh?

They tend to cause an increase in thefts and assaults due to the influx of ruined meth zombies

I wouldn't want one near my family home either

From CEO News: The two articles above, concerning complaints against inactive local police services in Phnom Penh, were taken from the news outlet KBN. It's always difficult to know who is behind news like this. Sometimes it involves inhouse competition, but it seems there is a lot of local residents complaining about security.
Here at CEO we are reporting the news that is already posted in Khmer online news outlets.
