Stung Treng, Cambodia News: A Stung Treng man recovered a rare red-shanked douc monkey, and on 16 February, he handed it over to the local forestry authorities for treatment because it is sick.
According to wikipedia, the red-shanked douc monkey is found in Vietnam, Southern Laos and also, possibly Northeastern Cambodia. Before 1967, the douc was completely unstudied, and even today, very little research has been done, but it is estimated that there are around 1300 red-shanked douc monkeys living in Vietnamese forests.
Hunting is currently the major threat to this species, most often for subsistence use and traditional medicine. Local people often hunt the species for food, pets or making glue.
