Residents of Stung Meanchey Accuse Officials of Implication in Illegal Gambling

Phnom Penh, Cambodia News: Residents of Stung Meanchey commune 3, Meanchey district, Phnom Penh, said that there are many types of gambling going on in the area because they are run by officials, police authorities and local authorities. Villagers suspect Em Phearry and Meng Virak Dara, the Meanchey police chief, are benefiting from the local gambling.
They say that illegal gambling is rampant in the Stung Meanchey 3 commune, Meanchey district, Phnom Penh, and that it is creating a climate of insecurity involving robbery, property theft and drug distribution.
Citizens call for Phnom Penh Governor Khuong Sreng and Phnom Penh Police Chief Seth to come and inspect the situation and clean up the illegal gambling, which is being ignored and even encouraged by local authorities in Steung Meanchey 3.
