Tuktuk Attack in BKK District, Phnom Penh
Phnom Penh, Cambodia News: At 9 pm on the night of January 30, 2020, along Mao Zedong Road in Phnom Penh, close to the Chinese Embassy in Boeng Keng Kang district, two men attacked a tuktuk carrying a Khmer man and his family, together with two of their guests from the Philippines.
According to the tuktuk driver, he drove to the spot where the two guests waited for him and then they got into the tuk-tuk to take them around the Camko City Roundabout, traveling together with his family. His wife was seated on the left hand side, while the little boy was sitting in the front, as they were traveling along Mao Zedong Boulevard, when two suspects on a motorbike drove alongside the tuktuk on the right hand side. They attempted to grab a backpack from one of the Filipino passengers, but the victim resisted and hung on to the bag.
The suspects then increased the escape speed of the motorbike, but the tuk-tuk driver also increased the speed until the motorcycle and tuktuk collided. The tuktuk overturned, slightly injuring the two foreign women and the wife of the tuktuk driver. The man and his son were unharmed.
Shortly after the incident, the two suspects on the Suzuki motorbike, plate 1HZ5210, were detained by the Boeung Keng Kheng Police Inspectorate in cooperation with officials from the Ministry of Interior's mild criminal bureau who were on patrol in the area. The suspects will be charged with assault and aggravated robbery.
