Phnom Penh, Cambodia News: On 26 December 2019, at 9:30pm, some "good citizens*" contacted a police patrol in Por Senchey district to alert them that three people living in Room A3 in Chomovorn Village were smoking and selling drugs.
The police went to search the premises and found three people there, a 28-year-old man and two women aged 43 and 39. At first the police search of the room came up with no result, but drugs were found in the clothes of one of the women after police called in a woman to conduct a body-search.

The three suspects, along with the evidence, were then taken to the Porsenchey District Inspectorate to compose a profile of the suspects for a legal record.

*Note: The use of the words "good citizen(s) comes from the Khmer report, and is not from a judgement by CEO News.

I would not be too happy if someone in my building was smoking an unidentified substance either. Does not matter how much you drunk, I won't get drunk, but if you smoke drugs close to me its a different story

It doesn't say what drug it is, but I think we can rule out marijuana and presume that it's meth. Having meth dealers as neighbors is not cool. You can see it's a poor area, and when some people are trying to raise kids, or just trying to exist without drugs, it must be difficult when there are meth-heads coming and going next door. This is daily life in some areas of Phnom Penh. I don't blame them for calling the police.

Agree meth heads are nothing but trouble for anyone who lives near one and sadly most everyone now has a neighborhood met addict. I was asking if pczz would call the police if I was smoking a spliff and he was nearby and could smell it.

Yeah yeah. Bad!
forsure
but it is so easy to take on the low life
and it suits the purpose of those up top that we focus all our scorn at the bottom end

I guess that is what irks me

imagine if we gave as much attention to highlighting those further up the chain
and insist upon action up there?
Maybe too hard? Maybe too risky? so we take the easy target
For no purpose, it does nothing.

Does anyone still believe that fighting this drug war with the addicts and low level dealers with fix it?
Lock em up, lock em up. shame them, lock em up.
Where are the calls for a more modern approach? - treating drugs as a health issue

I have to say i am a little surprised that there is very little voice for a more modern, enlightened drug policy/attitudes on CEO.
Maybe it is just silenced by all the howling...

This is not a snide attack on anyones attitudes - it is genuine angst that the drug war still has so much support - including here.

@ Stern,
CEO News is trying to bring you diverse information from Cambodia. This includes how the poor and ordinary people experience life here. It is not always pretty. It includes some sad and dramatic news. There is a big meth problem in Cambodia. Recently, the authorities have said that they are targeting small consumers of drugs, and as you can see in this thread, this is absolutely correct. We are not saying that this is right (morally), but, judging by recent news items like this one, it is correct. Poor people and children are being arrested for small amounts of drugs.

This is a discussion forum. We bring you the good the bad and the ugly from Cambodia to look at and discuss. Would they be better off if nobody knows what is happening to them ? It is still happening, whether we post it or not.

We are trying to supply you all on the forum with 'bites' of varied news items from everyday Cambodia, and at the same time, to give you an insight into how the Khmer media presents their information. That's why the English translations sometimes remain a bit stilted or quaint; because we are trying to preserve the Cambodian reporting style. And sometimes you have to read between the lines and not take everything at face value.

I hope this helps to give you a different perspective on the news as reported on CEO.

Yes. Unforynatley Marijuana is considered "coo"l and "harmless" byt the people who use it, and anyone who doesnt is a miserable old person.
I do not like the effects it has on me. Kindly keep it in your own room with the doors shut

Typical comment when anyone criticises potheads. I am sorry some people have to rely on drugs or alcohol to give meaning to their lives. I am a tobacco addict but i don't blow it in everyones face, if noone else is a smoker I go outside. thats not being miserable, it is being considerate of the fact that other people have rights as well
