Well, damn, I guess that's why they say "never say never". We actually agree on something!

If that navy officer ever comes to PP, I call dibs on buying him the first beer.

I'd place my money on the Khmer military and their Chinese backers.

Doubtful they were triad - too petty.

Will the Navy guy get charged? Good luck with that one.

Will the Chinese Embassy complain? - nope they see money well spent training the Khmer military to be sure shots with their newly purchased QSZ-92 (aka NP 42 and CF 98) they are supplying as the standard issue sidearm here.

It's certainly upped the ante though!!!

Chinese criminals smoked by locals - is it gonna set a precedence?

its odd that the chinese picked on a military officer to rob. Think there is more to this than meets the eye.

Shoot him dead for burglary, or for being chinese?

What about the law that says you are not allowed to shoot people dead for that?
So shoot the naval guy for being a crim too? (if he did break the letter of the law)
Or are the military who are allowed the guns also allowed to shoot people dead too?
But not all the rest of us?

Do ya reckon Cambodia would be better off if everybody could have a gun?
or only the shopkeepers, the rich and the "approved"?

Bash the perv who was photographing in the dunnies?
or shoot the egoistical grinning tool of a petrol station owner who got the whole thing badly wrong?
(another post last week)

The rule of law?
or by the mob?
civilisation or the jungle?

What about shooting all the rich who steal 90% of the wealth.
You/who is gonna shoot them too? (you witness them committing crimes every day)
or are you only up for executing petty crims? the powerless.
The cockroaches but not the crocodiles?

Do you you want cambodians to uphold the law or not?
You can't have it both ways.
imo

In my country he would go to jail. They would expect a trained and armed navy officer to disarm to petty thieves without the need to kill them. A simple shot in the leg would have done, or even in the knee if he wanted more (revenge).
