Cambodia News (Battambang): On December 13,2019, at noon, an unidentified man was seriously injured after driving a tractor over a mine in Hong Teuk village, Phnom Prek district, Battambang.
The mine exploded on impact, and both the tractor and the victim received grave injuries. The tractor driver was sent to the hospital immediately for treatment.

All thoughts on the wellbeing of the farmer, I wonder how many times that mine had been avoided or even disturbed by the previous ploughings, also when the land was cleared and seemed safe to farm. I understand the difficulties in the tasks of clearing landmines with weather patterns even having the effect of moving them, or dependent on what materials they are made of, making difficult to detect for the expert working of the mine clearer. It's sad to read articles that result in the incident of a mine that too some was a need at the time. Let's think of the good people who want a sure end to this kind of incident and their plans for 2025.

Yes sad that the government's who created the miss don't go back and clean up their dirty work after the fighting and everyone goes back to their home town's

Well that would point to the CDGK with their ASEAN/ Western/ Chinese backers and the current government with their Vietnamese/USSR backers at the time. Considering that few of those entities still exist it's not really possible to get them to do anything. The best we can hope for is for the current demining to continue.

They don't exist in the form they did back then, the Cold War is over. It's much better now.

But they are sill responsible under general principles of international law.

Good luck trying to get any country to acknowledge that arms they sold decades ago are their responsibility. They will claim that they had good faith that those arms would be used by the end-users to fairly maim combatants.

I agree with Ats. ^^ ANd, that we gotta call them out still, especially because there has been no self-acknowledgment.

but i totally agree about any chance of holding "those most responsible" to account.
Cambodia is the only nation to have held anyone responsible in this whole Indochina V. the Planet crime - in a law court.

The good news is that mine use by the major powers has reduced radically. They still sell millions of mines around the world to their proxies for great profit - but overall the situation is far better than back then. Less use, better protocols.
The starkness of the cambodian tragedy was probably a big factor in those changes happening - and Cambodia has always been closely involved in formulating the changes, all along the way.

ps i hope the farmer makes it. can you imagine the constant build up of stress, just by being a tractor driver in Battambang.
