I always wonder why news articles give the license plate number.

Local media don't know how to write a news. They do this so their news article won't be a news sentence.

It is to identify the vehicle. It can be useful to differentiate one black Lexus accident from another black Lexus accident, for example. Or, in this case, if there was another incident involving a bus reported in the news the same day, we can see instantly if it is the same bus. The plate number can help identify the bus company. Also, sometimes a Khmer news outlet will report an accident a few days late, so by checking the license plates, we can see immediately if it has already been posted on CEO.
So posting the vehicle plate numbers is useful for the news team, even if it's not particularly interesting for our readers. It's not just a question of adding three more words to the article.

Granted such information contributes very little to the readability of a news article. It is more in keeping.with the cop's dictum of "get names and lisence plate numbers.

Before buying a used car in Cambodia, check the number plate via Google "2X-XXXX" to see if the Khmer owner killed anyone with it, parked it on a road divider, etc. I think it's quite a good public service given the lack of vehicle background checks. But of course the salesman would probably change the plates or remove anyway ... #KingdomOfPlunder

Sure, that's why they tell you the village, district, province etc - just to beef out the article with useless info.

Are there any Cambodians who do not leave the scene of a serious traffic accident?
Meanwhile, this is almost the rule that the polluters do not take their responsibility and flee? Is not that also punishable in Cambodia?
So I think that a truck driver or as here a bus driver who works for a company is known by name, the boss or something?

I would really like to know how many accident fugitives get away with it, if their vehicle remains at the accident site and if there is a higher penalty, or even a punishment, if someone kills someone in an accident and then flees.

They run because they are scared of being beaten by any angry mob that may form.A few have been beaten sensless and even killed.
