Dos and don'ts at Angkor Wat - the video
http://www.phnompenhpost.com/national/d ... et-time-tvThe film, produced by the Apsara Authority, which runs the Angkor temple complex, hammers home a code of conduct introduced earlier this year after highly publicised incidents of bad behaviour including the use of the temple as a backdrop for nude photos...
They forgot the nudes. Lessens the impact somehow.
And a couple of other things: Do not pick up "souvenirs", do not buy "artifacts", and do not EVER carve or scribble " Bruce and Jennifer Forever " ANYWHERE. Think that covers it.
Hopefully "Do not pee on sacred sites" is obvious enough. Do they have public toilets there ? Can't say I noticed.

I carve my name into every UNESCO World Heritage Site. I then carve "sorry" to even it out.

Why don't give money to children? Why don't ban beggars?

Giving money to children just encourages them to keep begging.prahkeitouj wrote:Give or not is depend on us, a good- hearted can't stop giving.Samouth wrote:i think if you stop giving money there will no beggarprahkeitouj wrote:Why don't give money to children? Why don't ban beggars?
Give them money today, and they'll be back for more tomorrow, and the next day, and the day after that, and . . .
They will grow up believing that begging is the only way for them to survive.
Better to teach them how to fish.

I am all for the new code of conduct but it seems not to be enforced so far. On my last visit I saw a couple of soap-dodgers that wore shirts that not leave much to the imagination. Oh, and the biggest litter bugs are the Khmer....

I do understand, but I don't think they can help those children how to fish.Username Taken wrote:Giving money to children just encourages them to keep begging.prahkeitouj wrote:Give or not is depend on us, a good- hearted can't stop giving.Samouth wrote:i think if you stop giving money there will no beggarprahkeitouj wrote:Why don't give money to children? Shame! Our ancestors will cry if they see Cambodian beggars in the wonderful temples.

They can grow and sell veges.
They can exchange some chicken / duck eggs for some lessons in reading / computer / etc.
OK, maybe it sounds too idealistic, but the point is that they DO have alternatives. Whether that involves fishing or not, is irrelevant.
Today's begging kid = tomorrow's moto thief getting beaten to death.
