National Police set to sign MoU with FBI in US
The National Police and the US Federal Bureau of Investigation will sign an MoU to create a joint taskforce to combat terrorism and cross-border crimes, National Police spokesman Lieutenant General Chhay Kim Khoeun said.

National Police chief General Neth Savoeun and a delegation yesterday flew to Washington to discuss cooperation on security issues at the invitation of the FBI.

Speaking to reporters yesterday at Phnom Penh International Airport, Lt Gen Kim Khoeun said the five-day visit aims to enrich collaboration by exchanging experiences in dealing with security issues.

“We will strengthen our cooperation in combating terrorism and cross-border crimes,” he said. “Both parties will also sign a Memorandum of Understanding to establish a joint taskforce to prevent terrorism, transnational crime and also discuss other areas of mutual interest.”

Lt Gen Kim Khoeun noted that this is the first MoU on cooperation to be signed between the National Police, General Department of Immigration and the FBI.

“Under the agreement, training and technical equipment will be provided to the National Police to support the cooperation,” he said. “We actually have collaborated with the FBI before but on a case to case basis.”

Is it because of the high number of terrorist attacks in Cambodia?

There are a large number of ISIS fighters who have disappeared from Syria. Add to this that there have long been rumours of connections between the muslin community in Cambodia and the muslim insurgents in thailand and the Philippines and the muslim method of international money transfer which is unregulated and you can satrt to see some possible justification for the FBI to be sniffing about, even if its not just to piss the chinese off

I'm a bit surprised. I thought HE had basically told the US they could go fuck themselves, we have China now.

Nope, HE is far too smart for that. he is busy playing uncle sam off against the forbidden city.
Recently announced military exercises with the yanks again and Uncle sam has interstingly started chucking money this way again.

HE Gen. Naw Savoeun thanked the FBI representative, John D. Wilson, for his two years of cooperation between the FBI and the Cambodian National Police, noting three points of success of the cooperation between the FBI and the Cambodian National Police, which made the crime fall considerably:
1/Cooperation in crime prevention research, particularly the prevention of child sexual abuse in at least 10 cases, where foreigners were involved.

2/The FBI assisted in the training of members of the Cambodia National Police.

3/The FBI has also helped to train more than 10,000 technical personnel in the field of computer data.
